When the failure occurs, multiple AcuraWatch/Honda Sensing safety systems become unavailable, including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). The vehicle displays numerous safety-related warning messages on the dashboard.  The issue is intermittent and appears to occur randomly. In many cases, the warnings disappear after the vehicle is shut off and immediately restarted. This behavior can be observed in the attached video, where the warnings clear following a restart at approximately 1:08 into the recording.  The vehicle retains its original factory-installed windshield and related components. The windshield has never been replaced, modified, or damaged, eliminating a common cause of camera calibration or alignment issues.  I contacted Acura Client Relations and opened case number 16409871 regarding this issue. Acura declined to acknowledge the problem as a manufacturing defect and did not offer coverage for diagnosis or repair.  Because the multipurpose camera is a critical safety component responsible for advanced driver assistance and collision avoidance functions, its intermittent failure raises significant safety concerns. The fact that the issue temporarily clears after a restart suggests a potential defect in the camera hardware, software, or related vehicle systems rather than normal wear and tear.  I understand that other Acura and Honda owners have reported similar multipurpose camera failures. The new replacement motor has already seized again with only 30,000 miles.  Dealer has taken motor apart and confirmed it is the same rod bearing issue as the recall.  So the new motor that was replaced must have the same issue.  After further investigation, it also appears that the Acura dealership that replaced the motor, did not tighten or replace many bolts during the repair. The scan indicated that the vehicle was subjected to odometer fraud. The contact reviewed the paperwork and received it at the time of sale and became aware that the mileage stickers, along with other indications that the documentations were false. The contact retrieved a Carfax Report and discovered that the actual mileage was 225,802. The contact reported the odometer fraud to the Police Department and was informed that the dealer was known for odometer fraud. I recently took the car to a mechanic because I needed to change the timing belt components and he advised me that one of the rods that were replaced failed. This means that the engine was attached by only one rod, the other rod was cut, not connected. I called Acura today  reporting the issue with the recall, they gave me a case number 16125924, advising me that some one would get back to me. The same mechanic also advised me that the high pressure fuel pump was not working properly and that my car could stall while driving it and he advised that it would be dangerous to drive it without replacing it. The part he quoted me was around $700.  I looked for recalls for this car with this fuel pump issue and found that Acura only recalled some VIN numbers and my car is not one of the VIN numbers recalled. I believe Acura has not recalled all cars involved with the pressure pump. I find it hard to believe that they are not aware of this issue affecting more of the 2018 MDX model. The recall with the rods failed just a year after they replaced them. I had the rod recall done in 1/25. I cannot drive the car until I have the mechanic replace the high pressure fuel pump and fix the problem with the engine rod recall. As you press accelerator pedal nothing happens for a second or two. Then the vehicles accelerates not a gradual rate but at the rate of where the accelerator pedal is at when the vehicle begins to speed up. This causes sudden and hard acceleration. This delay and or sudden acceleration is dangerous when trying to pull into traffic.     The Vehicle is available for inspection upon request.  Was brought to dealer and after a very short inspection, was told nothing was wrong. They did do a transmission software update. This did not change anything. This is an issue reported in on-long blogs frequently.   No warning lamps to error codes related to this issue according to the dealer. On many occasions I was not scheduled for the recall or was told to wait for parts/authorization. I was also treated rudely by dealership staff (identified service advisor: Tara at Acura on Chapman Road), and my case was not escalated appropriately despite my persistence. 2025: Vehicle later displayed P0430 (catalyst efficiency below threshold, Bank 2), and within [insert timeframe] the engine experienced complete failure requiring immobilization. Dealer notes show an oil-pump leak and catalytic converter symptoms consistent with oil/fuel contamination and bearing-related engine issues. In 2025, my vehicle displayed Code P0430 (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 2) and ultimately suffered complete engine failure. The issues with oil circulation, catalytic converter performance, and acceleration are consistent with the rod bearing defect Acura has acknowledged as part of this recall.  Recently, Acura informed me that my recall was \u201ccompleted,\u201d even though the engine is now inoperable. This is unacceptable, as the recall was meant to prevent this exact type of engine damage, and Acura had two years of opportunity to address the issue before failure occurred.  The current situation has left me with a non-functioning engine, significant repair costs, and a serious safety concern that could have been prevented if Acura had honored its recall responsibilities in a timely manner. The car eventually drained the battery one night cycling down to 4.25v and had to be replaced (it was too damaged to be jumped).  Upon replacing the battery codes were read, cleared and the car driven.  The alarm and light issue came back, and the hood latch was disconnected.  This stopped the alarm, but after rain events or humid days the lights would still come on (as if someone unlocked the car or walked up with the key) and the dash lights would occasionally flicker.  The wireless control unit was removed and inspected and dendritic growth was noticed on one location of the board.  This was cleaned with alcohol and this has appeared to solve the issue so far. In 2019, the left taillight was repaired under a manufacturer recall related to water intrusion that caused lighting failure.  On March 22, 2025, during a routine visit to Acura of Boston (Bernardi Acura), it was determined that the same taillight assembly had failed again due to signs of water intrusion, causing the light to malfunction. The dealership estimated a cost of $805.82 for the replacement.  I contacted Honda and requested goodwill assistance since this issue was previously addressed as a safety recall, but they denied my request due to warranty expiration\u2014even though this is clearly a recurrence of the original defect.  This poses a potential safety hazard, as taillight failure can impair visibility and increase the risk of rear-end collisions, especially in low-light conditions. Vehicle was brought to the dealership on at least 4 or 5 times with this complaint - from 2020 through 2024...One time it was at dealership for almost 2 weeks  Dealership would never fully admit to the issue - often times one service person, through test driving would notice the issue, only to then be told it was \"normal driving\" of this vehicle.   On a regular basis, car would stop (pause) \"in the face of oncoming traffic - my heart would skip a beat, only for the car to then resume accelerating  On many occasions, I discussed with service team - always to be told that there were no known issues  Fast forward to 2024 - when Acura notified me of a Recall regarding the Fuel Pump....I quickly scheduled an appointment, brought the car in this past week and had the Recall done.  Speaking with the Serviceperson when checking the car in, I brought up the past issues that I have had and asked if this Recall was the likely reason.....the service person - without hesitation said \"absolutely\"......I then asked him, so was \"Acura lying to me ll these past visits\".....his response was \"sounds like it to me\"  Since getting the car back - the hesitation has stopped. The vehicle will randomly decide that I am going to hit a car in another lane, and will forcefully apply the brakes (when there is no issue, no danger, no possible way I am going to even be close to hitting another car) causing the cars behind me to come extremely close to rear-ending me! Or the car will decide I am going off the road when I am taking a soft curve, and it will sound a warning and try to turn the wheel. 3.) The display panel will go black for no reason. I then cannot use the navigation screen. It will randomly return after a few hours or after a day or two. 4.) The camera/display will get stuck on the reverse camera causing a visual disconnect as I drive forward, but can only see what is in reverse. (like seasickness). No idea what causes it or how to fix it. Eventually it corrects itself after a few hours/day+. 5.) Car will occasionally make a strange squealing noise after it has been turned off  - no idea what that is, or what causes it. As a salesperson who spends many, many hours in her car, this vehicle has become a constant danger to both my livelihood and my life. A seatbelt is the most basic, fundamental piece of safety equipment needed. My car is not safe to drive. Driving it puts myself at risk everyday day. This could easily result in death.  The dealer told us that the part is indefinitely backordered with no ETA. They said they had two other orders for a drivers seatbelt that they were waiting on that they haven't gotten, one of them placed in July. This is 3 people at one dealership that cannot get a drivers seatbelt.  I escalated this to Honda/Acura. It took over 20 emails and calls and 10+ social media posts for someone to call me back. I was told I would be moved to a critical back order part and skip the line. It would make me 9th in line, meaning there are many more than that waiting on the part given you don't get moved to a critical back order part unless you continue to call, email and blast them. I was told it could take a year for me to get a new seatbelt as they are having production issues (yet they are making new cars with seatbelts without a problem). They are not prioritizing getting this most basic fault feature replaced and based on the amount of people at one dealer waiting for this part and the \"hundreds\" as she told me also waiting for this part this should be prioritized and it should be recalled. I called AAA and had the car towed to the local Acura dealership that I just had it serviced at. Upon their evaluation, it was determined that the battery was not completely dead, but not strong enough to engage the starter. Therefore, the car continued to try to start and overloaded the starter, burning it out. I strongly feel that this is a catastrophic failure for Acura and completely unacceptable for a vehicle with all kinds of safeguards. It should not have caught on fire from a weak battery in the garage/under my daughter\u2019s bedroom \u2013 The whole car and house could have burned down. The warranty expired 3k miles ago ironically, but given this issue has happened to other cars of the same make and model and given the recall for this same part on other cars like mine just with a different vin I believe it should be covered as it is a major safety concern. The car jerked very hard and luckily I did not have my kids with me and luckily no one was too close to me when my car starting stopping in such an forceful way. You don't have to mash the accelerator, even with light to moderate pressure you will notice that lag where the vehicle is just sitting there with zero power. If you do accelerate moderately or hard after a second or 2 of doing nothing it will just completely jerk into motion. Does the same thing in all modes, it's actually worse in Sport and Sport+ mode because you get more power after the hesitation  After braking moderately hard from 40mph to 15mph because someone cut in front. Then I changed lanes and had to accelerate because that other lane was going quite a bit faster. Hit the gas and nothing for what seemed like the longest 1.5 seconds until the thrust came back online  Pattern:   From Stop --> Accelerate  for about approx 20 MPH -->Release the gas pedal and immediately apply the gas pedal.  Another pattern:  Travel in about 40 MPH, apply the brakes to a speed below 20 MPH and apply gas pedal.  Consulted with the dealer  multiple times and they think this is normal for 2018 MDXes. But it is indeed a safety concern. The dealer said they applied TSB 20-015 TCM update and it still has not resolved the problem.   THIS IS A HUGE SECURTY ISSUE and DANGER HAZZARD.  The issue happens every day. THE ISSUES INCLUDE, THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM FREEZING, THE NAVIGATION SCREEN NOT ALTERNATING BETWEEN DAYTIME AND NIGHTTIME BACKGROUNDS (WHICH CAUSES VISION ISSUES IN THE EVENINGS - IT IS CURRENTLY STUCK ON DAY WHICH IS BRIGHT), THE BACK-UP CAMERA STAYING ON WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FORWARD (THIS INCLUDES ALMOST UP TO 2 MILES AT ONE POINT), THE SYSTEM COMPLETELY TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NOT TURNING BACK ON, AND THE SYSTEM TRYING TO REBOOK CONITNUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE TIMES AND NOT ABLE TO REBOOT.  THERE HAVE NOW BEEN TWO TIMES WHERE I NEED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN THE CAR OFF, AND TURN IT BACK ON TO GET THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM BACK ON AND TO BE ABLE TO FUNCTION.      I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP AND ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS I WOULD STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE OTA.  NO OTHER OPTIONS OR RESOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE OR BEING OFFERED.  I HAVE MADE REQUESTS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DIRECTLY TO ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS TO HAVE THE SYSTEM REPLACED AS IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE.  ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS STATED THEY WOULD NOT OFFER THAT AS AN OPTION.  WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING LOOKED AT PREVIOUSLY, I WAS GIVEN ANOTHER ACURA MDX ON TWO OCCASSIONS AND DID NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES I AM EXPERIENCING WITH THE MDX THAT I OWN.  I ASKED TO BE ESCALATED TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF LEADERSHIP AND I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN IF MY ESCALATION REQUEST WERE TO BE REVIEWED, THE MANAGER HAS THE RIGHT WHETHER OR NOT THEY WOULD RESPOND.  THIS WAS INAPPROPRIATE AS IT IS DISCOURAGING CONSUMERS IN TRYING HAVE THEIR CONCERNS HEARD.  AT THIS POINT, AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO. I AM ASSUMING THE WATER THAT GOT COLLECTED MAY BE OVERNIGHT OR PREVIOUS DAY RAIN/SNOW IS GETTING FROZEN IN THE SHELLS OF THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR, AND THE SEAMS OF THE WINDOW GLASS PANE.. UNFORTUNATELY AND THERE IS NO WAY TO  ROLL THE WINDOW MANUALLY OR OPEN THE MIRRORS MANUALLY. HAD TO WAIT FOR FEW HOURS BEFORE THE MIRRORS COULD ACTUALLY OPEN UP AND THE GLASS DOOR WOULD START ROLLING DOWN.     ISSUE 2:  ======  THE PHONE IS ASSOCIATED TO THE CAR AS A PAIRED BLUETOOTH DEVICE, AS WELL AS AN ANDROID PHONE. WHEN PLAYING SONGS VIA PHONE VIA BLUETOOTH IN CAR, THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION WOULD NOT RESUME AFTER YOU STOP THE CAR EXIT THE CAR, LOCK THE CAR  (WHILE THE SONGS ARE BEING PLAYED) AND COME BACK AFTER SOME TIME UNLOCK THE CAR AND RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE TO STOP AND RESTART THE BLUETOOTH ON MY PHONE FOR THE ACURA TO RECOGNIZE MY PHONE AS A MEDIA PLAYER, HOWEVER THE CAR RECOGNIZE MY PHONE AS A PHONE FOR MAKING CALLS ETC.. THIS HAPPENS TO PHONE AS A MEDIA PLAYER ONLY... ONCE I WALKED PASSED THE VEHICLE WITH THE WIRELESS REMOTE IN MY POCKET AND THE VEHICLE UNLOCKED ITSELF WITHOUT TOUCHING THE DOOR. ANOTHER TIME BOTH SIDE MIRRORS TILTED DOWN REGARDLESS OF WHERE THE MIRROR SWITCH WAS ON THE DRIVER DOOR. SEVERAL TIMES THE RADIO WOULD NOT ACTIVATE WHEN THE ON/OFF BUTTON WAS PRESSED. SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE HANDS FREE LINK SYSTEM. I PRESSED THE TALK BUTTON IT SAYS NO DEVICE FOUND. PRESS TALK BUTTON, GIVE PHONE COMMAND IT SAYS NO DEVICE PAIRED. . PRESS TALK BUTTON, GIVE PHONE COMMAND, DISPLAY SHOWS CALL HISTORY . PRESS TALK BUTTON AND GIVE PHONE COMMAND, THEN CALL B%##% ,VOICE CONTINUALLY SAYS PARDON. TURN BACK WIPER ON AND BACK OFF, WIPER CONTINUED TO WORK FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES.  I PARKED THE VEHICLE WITH THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ON, WHEN I STARTED VEHICLE LATER, MESSAGE IN DISPLAY READ,TROUBLE WITH ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE TAKE TO DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE CAR RIGHT BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD I MUST HAVE BUMPED THE 'RESUME' BUTTON WHILE TURNING AND THATS WHAT CAUSED IT TO UNEXPECTEDLY EXCEL. I ASKED, IT ENGAGES AT A VIRTUAL 4-5 MPH CRAWL? EVEN WHEN NO PREVIOUS SPEED HAS BEEN ENTERED SINCE THE CAR WAS STARTED? THE SERVICE WRITER STOPPED THE CAR, TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND HE DEMONSTRATED HOW I MUST HAVE BUMPED THE RESUME AS I WAS TURNING. HE BUMPED THE RESUME AND THE CAR LAUNCHED OFF ON ITS OWN FROM A COMPLETE STANDSTILL. HE SAID IT WAS A NORMAL ACURA TRAIT BUT SHOULDNT EXCEED 25-30 MPH. HE SAID HE HAD A SUBARA THAT DOES THE SAME THING. HE SAID CUSTOMERS FREQUENTLY COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BEING A SAFETY HAZARD AND HE SUGGESTED WE JUST BE SURE THE CRUISE MASTER CONTROL IS TURNED OFF EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR. I TRIED THIS WITH ALL MY OTHER VEHICLES AND NONE OF THEM EVEN ENGAGED CRUISE UNDER 25 MPH. HONDA NORTH AMERICA HAS ADMITTED THAT IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT AND DO NOT NOT WANT TO DO A BUY BACK.  HONDA CLAIMS THE REPAIRS FORM LEAKS ENTERING A VEHICLE FOR AN UNSPECIFIED PERIOD CORRECT MOISTURE ENTERING A VEHICLE FOR AN UNSPECIFIED PERIOD. HONDA DOES NOT PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION ON HOW THE MOISTURE WILL IMPACT THE ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE OR CORRECT MOLD GROWTH.  HONDA NOR THE DEALER HAVE BEEN COOPERATIVE OR RESPONSIVE TO THE CONCERNS OF THE BUYER.  WHEN THE NEW VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED, IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES ON IT.  THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE WAS $42,000.  BUYERS MADE A DOWN PAYMENT OF $24,000.  RADLEY ACURA IS IN POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. HONDA & RADLEY HAVE NOT BEEN RESPONSIVE AND FEEL THAT THE PURCHASERS DO NOT HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE BUT TO ACCEPT A DEFECTIVE NEW VEHICLE THAT LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS.  RADLEY CLAIMS THEY HAVE CORRECTED THE MISALIGNED PASSENGER DOOR.  PURCHASERS HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS.  HOW HAS THE MOISTER AFFECTED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM?  HONDA HAS ADMITTED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM.  THERE IS NO DISPUTE THAT WATER AND MOISTURE ENTERED INTO THE VEHICLE FOR AN UNSPECIFIED TIME. FINALLY THE BRAKES LET OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BUT FURTHER DOWN THE SAME HILL THE AUTOMATIC BRAKES DID THE SAME THING AGAIN WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO CHANGE LANES, THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE CAR INFRONT OF ME AT THIS POINT AND NO REASON FOR THE AUTOMATIC BRAKES TO DO THIS. I ATTEMPTED TO NOT LOOK OUT THAT PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD AND FOCUSED LOOKING STRAIGHT WERE OBJECTS WERE CLEAR AND ACCURATE TO SIZE/SHAPE.
