My wife (who was a passenger) and I quickly walked off the overpass to relative safety and called for a towing service.  The police initially thought that the car was left in the way of traffic in the middle of a travel lane, rather than being pulled over into the breakdown lane.  I had to explain that my Giulia stopped too quickly for me to be able to pull into the breakdown lane.  The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic that same day (September 1st, 2024) who confirmed the failure to restart the vehicle but declined to perform any work, referring me instead to Alfa Romeo service.  The vehicle was towed to an Alfa Romeo dealership on September 23rd, 2024, where it sits to this day (November 1st, 2024).  The dealership reports that the failure is due to a known issue - a defective fuel pump and associated control module.  The dealership reports that they have the new fuel pump on hand, but that the associated control module is still unavailable.  The dealership is unable to provide a date when the control module will become available. A few seconds later, the engine stopped responding to the accelerator pedal and misfires appeared, which caused the engine to come to a complete stop and the power steering noticeably deced. Fortunately, we were just able to get to safety, but the car could not be started from that moment on. The diagnosis of our authorized Alfa Romeo dealer was: defective fuel pump and fuel pump module, with replacement costs of \u20ac1,294. What is striking is that at the same time another Giulia, with the same year of construction, was at the same dealer with exactly the same problem.  In our case, because we were driving on a fairly empty road, we did not incur any injuries or damage to our vehicle or fellow road users, but of course this could have been very different in a busy traffic situation. Then the engine cuts off and the car shifted into N gear. It was a very horrifying experience as the semi-truck behind me almost crashed into me since my car lost power. I tried to restart the car but with no success, the engine will sputter for 3-5 seconds and gave up. Plugged in the OBD scanner and received a \"P008A low fuel pressure\" reading (I had almost a full tank of gas). So it is a fuel pump related issue.  Apperantly this is a very popular issue/defect, and Alfa Romeo is well aware of it as they even published a service bulletin for this specific error. Please see the attached PDF file for the service bulletin. Basically, the fuel pump module should be replaced. I am taking my car to an Alfa Romeo dealership for further investigation. I believed that Alfa Romeo should recall and inspect the conditions of the fuel pumps because it is very dangerous when your engine cut off while driving on a busy interstate. I also have another passenger with me while the incident happens and some other video and photo evidence. I feel that a bad brake caliper in one tire should not cause all four tires and all four brakes to stop the car suddenly on the road  or prevent the car from moving when Idol or lock the electronic brake  system. I communicated this clearly with Alfa Romeo main office as well as with my local dealership. This has been almost 2-3 weeks ago since ofI communicated with the Alfa Romeo people. I clearly told him that this is a big safety issue and we can't allow cars to stop by themselves in the middle of the road or come to a sudden brake in the middle of the road. This is extremely hazardous to the driver as well as to the people in that car or around the car.  the technician  thinks that the car is drivable and safe.  Again I work on people not cars, but to me sudden irrational activation of the electronic braking system may not be dangerous when the car is idol but is extremely DANGEROUS while driving. NOT TOO LONG AGO I HAD IT IN THE SERVICE WHERE THEY PERFORMED A FAULT WITH THE SOUND SYSTEM AND A MISALIGNED HOOD. I HAVE ALSO FELT THE BREAKS ACTING FUNNY WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT PER SAY, IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE CAR TO FULLY STOP WHETHER A SOFT PRESS ON THE PEDAL OR A HARD ONE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A \"DEAD POINT\" WHEN STEPPING ON THE BREAK PEDAL AS WELL.  WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CRUSHED GIULIA TO THE NEAREST SHOP. THE OTHER PARTY WHO WAS HIT DIDN'T SUFFER MUCH DAMAGES, ON MY CAR, BOTH HEADLAMPS BROKE, HOOD CRUSHED INWARDS AND THE BUMPER IS TRASHED.  I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERN WITH ALFA ROMEO BUT NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY.  ON A SIDE NOT I HAVE BEEN HAVING CONSTANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS POP UP RANDOMLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2017. ON 3 OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS , MAYBE 5 TO 10 MPH , I HAVE APPLIED THE BRAKES , THE BRAKES HAVE LOCKED IN PLACE AND THE ENGINE HAS SUDDENLY ACCELERATED.     THE FIRST TIME I CONTINUED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND AFTER A WHILE THE ACCELERATION ENDED. I WAS VERY SCARE AND TOOK CAR TO DEALER. THEY CHECKED IT AND REPROGRAMED THE CARS COMPUTER, BUT FOUND NOTHING AFOUL OR ABNORMAL.    THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED , I PUT CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. WENT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY DID THE SAME THING AS THE FIRST TIME : TESTED THE CAR , FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND REPROGRAMED THE CAR'S COMPUTER.    THEY ALSO SAID THEY HAD NO NOTICES FROM ALFA'S PRINCIPAL OFFICE IN THE USA RELATED TO MY COMPLAINTS.    ON APRIL 18 THE 3RD INCIDENT OCCURRED. THIS ONE WAS A BIT MORE SCARY SINCE I ALMOST IMPACTED A PARKED CAR. I WAS LEAVING OFFICE AT ABOUT 5 TO 7 MPH , I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THEY ONCE AGAIN LOCKED IN PLACE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON HIS OWN. THIS TIME THE ACCELERATION LASTED LONGER AT HIGHER RPM. ONLY A FAST REACTION TO PLACE CAR IN PARK AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR OFF AVOIDED AN COLLISION  WITH A PARKED CAR. I WAS AGAIN VERY SCARED SINCE IAM AFRAID THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN PUTTING LIFE AND PROPERTY IN JEOPARDY.    IAM SCHEDULED TO TAKE CAR BACK TO DEALER NEXT WEEK. I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT BUT WITH GREAT CAUTION AND SCARE TO DEATH.     YOUR AGENCY NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION TO AVOID BODILY HARM OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO BREATHE. I'M AFRAID THAT I'M BREATHING IN ENGINE SMELLS THAT COULD BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. ALFA DOES NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AS OF YET. THEY HAVE ALREADY ATTEMPTED TO CREATE A FIX, BUT IT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO SEAL THE SMELL COMPLETELY, IT ONLY MINIMIZED THE SMELL AT BEST. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO 2 DEALERSHIPS NOW, AND BOTH HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ALL I'M TOLD IS ALFA ROMEO DOESN'T HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM YET. THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED SINCE DAY 1 OF BUYING THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME WITH DOZENS OF ACTIVE RECALLS THAT HAD TO BE FIXED AFTER THE DAY OF PURCHASE. I'M NOT SURE IF THATS LEGAL, BUT IT'S JUST MORE THE NONSENSE I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH WHEN DEALING WITH THIS CAR MANUFACTURER. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS IN NYC AREA DO NOT EVEN KEEP A LOANER, NONE OF THEM! THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STARTED A BUYBACK PROCESS; HOWEVER, THEY RESCINDED THE OFFER AFTER THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PUT AN EDR EVEN AFTER EXPRESSING CONCERNS OF OPERATING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. A FEW HOURS LATER I HAD A LUNCH APPOINTMENT. THE  MAN I WAS MEETING WANTED ME TO TAKE HIM FOR A SHORT RIDE IN THE CAR, WHICH I DID. AS WE RETURNED TO THE RESTAURANT, I PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPACE SLOWLY, AND ENGAGED THE BRAKES, AGAIN THE CAR WENT INTO SUDDEN ACCELERATION, GOING OVER ARBORVITAE TREES AND INTO A NEIGHBORING PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED AND THE CAR TOWED.
