It didn't allow the engine sprocket to turn the pulley that drives the belt powering the rear tire.  Resulted in a loss of propulsion while traveling at 55 MPH making riding to a safe location difficult, had to coast off the roadway.  The attached photo is after the sprocket was removed from the bike.  The pieces broken along the outside are from a gear puller during removal.
