This cause transmission fluid to burst out all over the vehicle including the windshield and trailer. Vehicle immediately stopped pulling and we barely were able to get to the side of the road. This also caused a catastrophic transmission failure costing approximately 10,000 to repair. GM covered some of the transmission cost but still left us with 5000 bill for a transmission line defect on a vehicle under 100,000 miles. This created a unsafe condition with the trans fluid on the windshield and immediate loss of drive. All maintenance was performed per manufacturers specifications and no warning signs/lights/leaks provided prior to the failure. I had to make several unsafe stops with a trailer to wait for the transmission to cool down again before continuing to get it home. Saw trans temps up to 240°F on flat land with 40° outside temps. I could smell the hot transmission fluid inside the truck. When I went to check the fluid level of the transmission, the fluid was full but had a large amount of glitter like metallic flakes. The fluid was very dark brown in color and smelled terribly burnt. The last recall I took in to the dealer for was about the transmissions possibility of failing, locking up, along with the rear wheels at any speed. I have young children that ride in this truck, that in it self was unsettling and unsafe. But then to have issues with absolutely no warning light was concerning. Ive since ordered an aftermarket built transmission to avoid repeating the same issues with a factory GM replacement. Despite the severity of the issue, the dealership has refused to provide a permanent repair. This defect is widely documented and has resulted in a recall in Canada, yet no recall exists in the United States—despite significantly more of these vehicles being sold here. The inconsistency in recall coverage is deeply concerning. My vehicle experiences substantial water intrusion that has saturated the rear headliner, rear seat area, and carpeting. This creates a serious health concern, particularly for rear-seat passengers, including children. Prolonged moisture intrusion creates a high likelihood of mold growth beneath interior components, which General Motors has failed to address. There is also a serious safety risk. The rear sliding window heater module is mounted directly to the rear window. It is well known that when this module is exposed to moisture from the leak, it can cause the rear window to shatter or explode. The dealership has acknowledged this risk. A rear window shattering while occupants are in the vehicle could result in serious injury. When covered under bumper-to-bumper warranty, the dealership’s only solution is a “reseal” of the rear window. This is not a permanent repair, and many owners report repeated failures after resealing. This issue is easily verified through widespread consumer complaints. These trucks are expensive vehicles, and owners should not be forced to accept temporary fixes for a defect that presents clear health and safety risks. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue and take appropriate action.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Despite multiple visits to multiple dealerships, I was repeatedly told that the necessary parts to complete the recall repair were on back order and instructed to “wait for parts.” No interim solution or assistance was ever offered. As a result of this delay, my vehicle broke down without warning, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. This created a hazardous situation and significant disruption to my day. To make matters worse, I had to pay out of pocket to have the truck towed to a repair shop in an effort to get it operational—an expense I should never have incurred given the known recall and repeated attempts to have the issue corrected by Chevrolet. I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner and have always trusted the brand for its quality and dependability. However, this delay and lack of proactive support is causing significant inconvenience and eroding that trust. This situation is unacceptable for several reasons: 1.Safety Risk and Recall Obligation: Chevrolet acknowledged the defect by issuing a recall, yet I have been forced to operate a vehicle that does not meet your own safety standards for months. 2.Repeated Service Attempts with No Resolution: I followed the proper process and visited an authorized dealer multiple times, only to be turned away each time with no solution beyond “wait for parts.” 3.Breakdown and Financial Loss: The vehicle failure and subsequent towing expense are a direct consequence of Chevrolet’s inability to provide timely parts or alternative accommodations. We immediately took the truck back to Sands who informed us of the recall and that the transmission needed to be repaired because of the excessive wear under the recall. However, I was informed that they did not have the parts to fix the issue and had no idea when they would receive them. I asked GM if they would provide me with a rental vehicle, but they declined, stating that if they offered a rental to me, they would have to provide one for others as well, which was not feasible due to the large number of affected vehicles. This was acknowledged when technical bulletin 20-NA-020 was released. The brake pads were know to contain low scorch friction material which can lead to premature wear. When this was discovered, GM began installing new pads which have a high scorch friction material and feature a new lining shim on the backing plate. GM failed to notify their customers of this problem. GM has done this deliberately since once the vehicle reaches over 7,500 miles, the pads are no longer under warranty. I discovered my vehicle was effected from this due to increasingly hearing a high pitch screeching sound coming from the vehicle. After immediately noticing the issue, I scheduled a service appointment and conducted my own research of this issue. This is when I discovered the technical bulletin. Due to my vehicle having over 7,500 miles, I was advised the cost for replacement is my responsibility. The cost for replacement including parts and labor from Chevrolet is approximately $750-$800. This issue is a direct safety concern and a known problem which GM failed to notify their customers of. GM deliberately withheld this information to shift the cost burden of replacement to customers beyond the 7,500 mile warranty period.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.
