Shortly after purchase, the vehicle began experiencing repeated serious safety-related electrical and propulsion failures. The most concerning incidents involve sudden loss of propulsion/power while driving. On one occasion, the vehicle lost propulsion while I was traveling on the freeway, leaving me in active traffic unable to accelerate normally and creating a serious risk of a collision. I also experienced an incident involving abnormal/unintended acceleration where I did not have normal control over the vehicle's acceleration, creating an additional safety concern. The vehicle has also failed to start, displayed Service Electric Vehicle System/red wrench warnings, experienced charging failures, and entered reduced-power conditions. The vehicle first entered a Dodge dealer for these problems on April 23, 2026 at only 1,163 miles. The repair record states the vehicle would not start for approximately 20 minutes, would sometimes turn off while driving, had drastic range loss, and had trouble charging. It remained at the dealer until June 1. The vehicle returned for repeated loss-of-power concerns. During a June repair visit, it was towed to the dealership following another loss-of-power complaint. Dodge opened a STAR engineering case and a field engineer became involved. Additional faults have included a red wrench warning, front wheel-hub disconnect faults and a condition restricting the vehicle to approximately 60 mph. The vehicle later returned with a Service Electric Vehicle System warning and no power, and has continued experiencing charging/electrical failures. Repeated dealership repair attempts and software updates, the problems have continued. Is has accumulated over 130 days out of service despite having approximately only 2,000 miles. Concerned that another sudden loss of propulsion or acceleration-control event could occur without warning at highway speeds. Available for inspection.
his vehicle is a two-door, five-passenger Dodge Charger equipped with the power Rear Seat Easy Entry feature. Because the vehicle only has two doors, the driver’s seat must automatically move forward toward the steering wheel to provide access for passengers entering or exiting the rear seat. There is a serious safety defect with this system. When the driver’s seat is moved forward using the Easy Entry feature, the seat travels toward the steering wheel as intended. However, when it reaches the forward position, the seat can suddenly and automatically travel rearward even though a passenger may still be in the process of entering or exiting the rear seating area. The seat moves rearward with significant force and does not adequately detect or stop for a person who may be in its path. A rear-seat passenger can be positioned directly behind the front seat when this unexpected movement occurs. The moving seat can pin or crush the passenger between the front seat and the rear seating/interior area. This is especially dangerous for children, who may take longer to enter or exit the rear seat and may not be able to react quickly enough when the seat unexpectedly begins moving rearward. This is not simply an inconvenience with the power seat. It creates a potential entrapment and crushing hazard during the normal and necessary process of entering or exiting the rear seats of a two-door, five-passenger vehicle. The unexpected rearward movement also appears inconsistent with the intended operation of the Rear Seat Easy Entry system. Dodge’s owner’s manual describes the seat automatically moving forward to provide rear-seat access and describes obstacle detection as part of the system. Despite this, the seat can unexpectedly return rearward while the rear-seat access area is still occupied. There also appears to be manufacturer service information addressing Easy Entry seats that move forward and then unexpectedly move rearward before the seatback is returned.
The contact owns a 2025 Dodge Charger EV. This incident has caused significant property damage. I arrived home and pulled into my driveway as I routinely do. I opened my garage door and waited for it to fully open before slowly pulling my vehicle into the garage. As soon as the car was positioned in the garage — a maneuver I have performed many times — the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly experienced rapid acceleration without warning. The acceleration was forceful and immediate. The vehicle propelled itself through the back wall of my garage, destroying the wall and items stored there, went airborne, and landed further out into my yard. The entire incident occurred so quickly that I was stunned and had no opportunity to react. Fortunately, I was not physically injured, but the outcome could easily have been catastrophic. The rear wall of my garage was completely destroyed, and my vehicle sustained extensive body damage. My car has been at the dealership, for approximately six weeks awaiting replacement body panels. While my insurance company has handled the property repairs efficiently, I continue to make payments on a vehicle that experienced a frightening malfunction through no fault of my own. My insurance has agreed to the supplemental estimate and committed to payment. But there are body panels that don't even have an ETA. So, I may be waiting for and making payments on a vehicle that I won't feel safe driving. Since July 2025, my vehicle has experienced recurring and dangerous problems that put my life and the lives of my children at risk whenever I attempt to drive it. Timeline and Critical Safety Issues: July 2025: The vehicle began showing major operational failures, including becoming stuck in Park, dashboard malfunctions, and electronic failures, particularly after charging. These issues make the car unsafe to drive. July – November 2025: While the dealership attempted repairs, I was provided a rental vehicle to allow safe transportation. November 2025: The dealership replaced a part, and I briefly regained use of the car for two days. However, after charging, a loud knocking noise occurred, and something was ticking underneath the vehicle, forcing me to return it immediately due to safety concerns. December 2025 (Most Recent Service): The dealership returned the vehicle after performing only a hard reset. The dangerous underlying problem remains unresolved. Despite repeated repair attempts, the manufacturer has not responded to my attorney or addressed these life-threatening risks. Driving this vehicle remains extremely unsafe and puts my family in immediate danger. I am urgently requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter and take immediate action to address these unresolved safety defects.
I was returning home in my electric Dodge Charger Daytona from work nearing an intersection when my vehicle's dashboard lit up with multiple warnings and entered "turtle mode" a limited power mode where the car no longer accelerates with the accelerator pedal but instead will slowly increase speed until breaks are applied. About 2 weeks after receiving the vehicle, a severe and dangerous incident occurred. I had driven approximately 2 miles at normal residential speeds with my baby in the back seat. After parking and walking toward the entrance of the home, I turned around and saw both rear wheels glowing bright red, radiating extreme heat, as if they were about to ignite. The temperature was so high that when I poured water onto the wheels, it instantly evaporated into steam. It appeared the back end of the vehicle was on the verge of catching fire. This happened during normal, low-speed driving with an infant in the vehicle, creating a direct and immediate risk to my child’s safety. This was not caused by hard braking, aggressive driving, or any impact. The vehicle had very low mileage and was being operated under normal conditions. In addition to this near-fire thermal event, the vehicle has multiple serious electrical malfunctions: • The key fob frequently fails to unlock the doors or open the trunk, leaving us stuck outside the vehicle. • The vehicle sometimes remains powered “on” even after pressing the button to shut it off. • These issues are unpredictable and raise further safety concerns. I reported the incident to Dodge/Stellantis immediately. For over 4 weeks, Dodge has repeatedly delayed sending an inspector, and the vehicle still has not been examined. Because of the overheating, electrical failures, and the risk of fire — especially with a child in the vehicle — I have stopped driving the car entirely. It is unsafe to operate. Upon returning to the car, I noticed extremely slow and inconsistent responses from both the accelerator and the brake, making the vehicle nearly uncontrollable. I decided to drive cautiously toward the Stoneridge Dodge Service Center via [XXX] and exited at [XXX] . At the intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] , I stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, the car failed to move forward despite pressing the accelerator. After several seconds, it suddenly surged forward uncontrollably, and when I pressed the brake, the response was delayed—the car continued moving into the intersection before it abruptly stopped. Fortunately, there was no collision, but the situation could easily have resulted in a serious accident. I parked nearby to inspect the vehicle and observed a yellow battery warning light on the dashboard and also a red word warning "the car is not ready to drive". After shutting off the car, I heard a mechanical noise lasting about 30 seconds. When I restarted it and shifted into reverse, the car instead moved forward slowly. After turning the engine off and restarting again, the warning light disappeared and the car seemed to return to normal. Given the danger, I chose to drive home slowly rather than continue to the service center. I feel this is a very serious incident that worth to report, to avoid the same issue that might have happened at other drivers' side. Besides the above issue, this car had been experienced 4 times false engine start up, I sent the car to Dodge service, they said they cannot duplicate the error so they returned my car and the leasing company Stellantis dispute the repurchase requirement. I suspect it was the charger issue(the charger also provided by Stellantis), I stop using the charger at home but only use the public charger. The issue happened on [XXX] Friday afternoon.
