The vehicle identified by VIN [XXX]  was fully operable, properly maintained, and in excellent condition prior to an emissions recall repair performed by an authorized dealership. Immediately after the recall \u201cfix\u201d was completed, the vehicle began experiencing serious operational problems and became undrivable.  The servicing dealership towed the vehicle and attempted an additional repair. After the vehicle was returned, it failed again on its first use and is now completely inoperable.  Despite the fact that this failure occurred only after the recall repair, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to assume responsibility for towing and correction unless the owner pays to have the vehicle towed more than 75 miles to another location. We do not believe it is appropriate for the owner to bear the cost of correcting a defect that arose directly from recall work.  Another authorized dealership has advised that responsibility remains with the dealer that performed the recall repair. The original servicing dealer has now stated they are \u201cnot responsible,\u201d despite having performed the recall work.  This situation has left the vehicle undrivable and created a significant hardship, and we believe it represents a recall remedy failure.  I spoke with the service manager at the dealership and he said it is up to me to prove that they did the damage to the car.    The vehicle was operable before the recall repair  The vehicle became inoperable immediately after the recall repair  The recall is still showing as open  The dealer already acknowledged a problem by towing it once and attempting a second repair  That establishes prima facie responsibility. In plain English:  Cause-and-effect is already evident. We are requesting that NHTSA document this issue and review the manufacturer\u2019s handling of this recall repair. There has been an open recall on the Emissions system since 2022. I immediately followed up and was put on a waitlist as I was told that the parts were on back order. I was told I was 27 on the waitlist. I followed up every 3-6 months for an update on getting the recall repaired but was told they have no update on the parts. It is now 2025 and my registration and inspection are expired. I was informed by FIAT service mechanic that the open recall should not impact my inspection. Upon bringing it in for inspection, I needed to get the thermostat replaced, which was one of the first recalls that was rectified upon purchasing the car in 2017. My car failed inspection. I followed up with FIAT corporate and was assigned a case manager who followed up as well unable to rectify the situation. Now my car is unsafe to drive, I have gotten a ticket for expired inspection . I told the officer that there  is an open recall and that I am at the mercy of FIAT.  Secondly since I purchased the car I have brought it back multiple times, expressing concern that the car lags when you press the gas. If I am merging on the the highway and I am going 30mph the RPM will struggle to go over 3 in order for the car to accelerate and then it falls to 1-2 RPM. Attached are numerous photos of my constant communication of presenting issues. The entire electrical system will turn on and off on its own. Error  I have gotten speeding tickets always when trying to switch lanes or am preparing for the exist because I have to compensate for the lag otherwise I will get smashed by another car. When driving 25-40 mph the engine will make a humming sound as if it is stuck in a gear. So my options are 50+  or 25 or less. Living in NY this is very difficult.  I have even advocated that I believe my car is apart of the 2016 transmission recall on my particular make and model. The dealer here claims that they replace this part at least once a month, and there are barely any Fiats on the road here.   I called their customer satisfaction center and they said they are \"sorry for the inconvenience\" and cannot provide any assistance in the matter. The inconvenience, specifically, is: that this part is a known problem, that the entire mirror needs replaced and the door will need be disassembled to complete that work, that the mirror isn't provided in the color of the car so there is also painting involved, and the total cost is around $2,000.  The part itself is just a little $10 bit, but because of the ridiculousness involved in this faulty part, the cost is bombastically high.  So, that leaves me waiting for a part that is in short supply because they need replaced constantly, and having to drive in extreme heat until it's fixed. I've never seen water in my car and on top of that, why is my RHA hub in the trunk? The forward collision warning system will intermittently turn itself off upon starting or even while driving. The car also frequently blows passenger side lights.  More recently at about 67,000 miles, the check engine and transmission warning lights came on while highway driving 2.5 hrs away from home. The car has been in and out of the shop at least 3 times over the past month and a half to try and fix the issue but they have been unable to determine what is wrong with it. They said they found metal in the transmission and therefore replaced the torque converter and valve body. However, the issue persists. A burning smell can now be detected when driving. Car is going into the shop for a 3rd time to try and fix it - leaving owner without a vehicle for another undetermined amount of time and many miles away from home (this time >500 miles away from home). I WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK IN THERE BUT THAT ONLY TOOK A PASSENGER SLAMMING THE HATCH SHUT FOR ALL OF THE PARTS TO FALL OUT IN TO THE STREET.  NOW IT WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE NOR THE INSIDE.  CALLED DEALER WHO REFUSED TO GIVE ME A BALL-PARK PRICE BUT DID SAY WHEN I DO BRING IT IN, I'LL BE CHARGED A $165 DIAGNOSTIC FEE WHETHER I HAVE IT WORKED ON OR NOT AND THAT FEE DOESN'T EVEN GO TOWARDS THE ACTUAL REPAIR/REPLACEMENT/LABOR COSTS.  SERIOUSLY? MY CARS SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AUG 10, 2020 AND DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE ALERT, THROWING CODE P0481, INTENSE HEAT WAS COMING FROM ENGINE THOUGH TEMP GAUGE AT NORMAL LEVELS.  I JUST HAPPENED TO FIND THE RECALL ONLINE WHILE TRYING TO FIND WHAT CODE MEANT.  CALLED THE FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILE (FCA) RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER THIS TIME INSTEAD OF DEALER AND THEY LOOKED UP MY VIN AND FOUND IT IS ONE THAT IS AFFECTED AND SCHEDULED THE APPT FOR ME WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE DEALER INSTRUCTION ON THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY SHOWS WHICH FAN MODULES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED (BU /FB MODULES ONLY)  & WHAT TO LOOK FOR YET THE DEALER NEVER BOTHERED THE FIRST TIME, JUST DENIED ME OVER THE PHONE. THERE WAS NO ADDRESSING THE FACT THAT MY CAR WAS BURNING THROUGH OIL AT AN ACCELERATED RATE AND THAT THE CAR ITSELF TURNING OFF AND LOCKING UP WHILE IN OPERATION IS \"NOT A DEFECT\" OR \"A SAFETY HAZARD\". I SPOKE WITH THE FIAT DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED 1/1/2020. 127 DAYS LATER, MY CAR HAS THIS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS DEFECT. FCA CLAIMS THAT NO BUY BACK OPTION AVAILABLE DUE TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. THEY OFFER TO HAVE SERVICE ATTEMPT TO FIX THE CAR BUT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE ENGINE, NOT JUST CHANGING THE OIL. THERE IS NO OTHER ENGINE THAT CAN BE PLACED IN THIS CAR TO COMPLETELY FIX MY VEHICLE. IF ANOTHER TIGERSHARK ENGINE IS PLACED IN MY CAR, THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF IT IS DEFECTIVE UNTIL THE CAR SHUTS OFF AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING WHICH CAN RESULT IN A FATAL ACCIDENT OR INJURY. DEALER HAD IT FOR TWO WEEKS AND SAID IT WAS A NEW UPDATE THAT CAUSED MY FIAT TO TURN OFF COMPLETELY. 4TH TIME HAPPENED WHILE I DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45MPH AND DEALER HAD ME BRING IT IN AND SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY MY KEY FOB BATTERY ( LITERALLY JUST CHANGED THE BATTERIES THE DAY BEFORE). THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY AND MANY TIMES WITH OUR CHILDREN AND WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR STALLED ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND NOT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY.  WE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FIAT (CASE # 57913062) AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FIAT DEALERSHIP.  THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS HAVING A LOW LEVEL OF ENGINE OIL EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN THERE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE AND WENT THROUGH THEIR \"MULTI-POINT\" INSPECTION.  THEY RECOMMENDED AN OIL CHANGE WITH AN ADDITIVE AND A FUEL INJECTION CLEANING WHICH COST US $600.     TWO WEEKS LATER, WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL, WOULD NOT SPEED PAST 60MPH, AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE HOOD.  THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A \"DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE\" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN.  WE TOOK THE FIRST HIGHWAY EXIT AVAILABLE AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CALLED FOR TOWING.  WE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FIAT ONCE AGAIN (CASE # 58008152) AND REQUESTED FOR IT TO BE ESCALATED DUE THE FREQUENT INCIDENTS AND OUR CONCERN FOR SAFETY.  THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SAME FIAT DEALERSHIP AS BEFORE WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS BEING A BAD IGNITION COIL THAT CAUSED A MISFIRE. I CALLED AND ALERTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT BREWBAKER DEALERSHIP, BUT THE ONLY AVAILABILITY WAS THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. BY FATE, THE CAR BEGAN TO OPERATE BETTER. FOR NEARLY A WEEK, THE IGNITION STARTED TO IMPROVE ALTHOUGH IT WOULD TAKE TWO TRIES. ON THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 29, THE SAME PROBLEMS REOCCURED FROM OCTOBER 19. INSTEAD OF GOING TO WORK, I DROVE THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT FOR SERVICE PERSONNEL TO ANALYZE THE PROBLEM. MAKES ZERO SENSE - CAR ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND IN MOTION 3+ TIMES A DAY!!!  FIAT DEALER KEPT CAR FOR 8 DAYS - AT ONE POINT TOLD ME IT NEEDED ALMOST $2000 OF WORK AND THAT THE REASON ENGINE WAS SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING WAS LOW OIL PRESSURE?!?!  AFTER I QUESTIONED THEM EXTENSIVELY ABOUT THE CHARGES AND THE SUPPOSED LOW OIL PRESSURE - THEY CHANGED THEIR STORY AND SAID OIL PRESSURE WAS JUST SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL AND APOLOGIZED ABOUT THE $2000 CHARGES -  SAID I DIDN'T OWE ANYTHING?? THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR (3) WEEKS.  THEY SAID IT WAS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE ON THE PART (AGAIN).  MY QUESTION IS SHOULD THIS BE CAUSE FOR CONCERN?  WHY WOULD THERE BE A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE ON A SINGLE PART?  AND IS THIS CONNECTED IN ANYWAY TO THE FAN ASSEMBLY FAILURE. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS BROKEN AND REPLACED.  THESE TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN A CAR LESS THAN 2 YEARS OR 20,000 MILES.  THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT OFFERED ANY CONCESSION OR EXPLANATION.  THE MANAGER EVENTUALLY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS \"DEFORMED\".  I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALL SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR THE TRANSMISSION, THE COMPUTER FREQUENTLY LAGS IN SHIFTING TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR.
