Ran 5W30 oil for 2 oil changes, then moved to 0W40 oil. Oil analysis performed for each oil change. Results were looking acceptable up until the next to last oil change at 13,801 miles. Changed engine oil and filter on 6/12/2026 @17,732 miles. Found a heavy build up of metal particles on the magnetic drain plug and when oil filter was cut open there was a heavy build up of metal particles where the Filter Mags were located and the filter element had fine metal particles in entire engine oil filter element. The engine has made no noise and is still running, but based on the evidence the engine is currently failing and if I would have continued to drive it, the engine would likely lock up on the highway. I tried push start again and the dashboard just went dark and started making a clicking noise. After some time around 1 min I tried again and it did crank up and I was able to try and get as close the the edge as possible but still in a two lane road on the bridge of an off ramp. I say thank God because 30 seconds sooner I was going around 60mph with my 4 month old in the backseat. Lucky I got to the exit when this happened. When you turn the knob to disable the automatic lights to avoid blinding someone while parked, the knob returns to the auto position as expected. This is a good system to ensure that the next time you start the car, the lights are in auto again. The issue is with the way the system indicates what is happening to the driver. When the lights are set to auto, the “auto” indicator on the knob is illuminated. If you turn the knob to running lights or full lights, the corresponding indicator lights up as expected. However, when you turn the lights off, the indicator light returns to “auto” even though the lights are actually off. While the physical knob should return to auto to make sure the system resets properly at the next startup, the indicator should switch to the “off” position so the driver knows the lights are off. I drove off in the city and assumed my lights were on because the knob said auto, but I later realized they were off. This creates a serious safety hazard. There is no way to know in that situation if your lights are actually on by looking at the knob unless you cycle the lights again. The issue involves a serious engine defect related to the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, which can result in catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving—a clear and dangerous safety risk. I first became concerned when early reports of this issue began circulating publicly. As a father of young children, I became increasingly uneasy that my vehicle could potentially fail while in operation. Receiving GM’s formal recall letter only validated my growing concern for my family’s well-being. It’s deeply frustrating and unsettling. The notice states that parts to repair or replace the engine are not currently available, and offers no clear timeframe for when a remedy will be provided. I feel like we are being strung along while forced to continue using a vehicle that may become unsafe at any moment. This delay is unacceptable. There has been no offer of a loaner vehicle, no proactive communication from the dealer, and no assurance from GM that they are prioritizing driver safety over logistics. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether GM is doing enough to provide timely remedies to affected customers. I also urge you to consider whether interim solutions (such as alternative transportation or more aggressive recall execution) should be mandated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I didn’t get to see how he did it because I was with my daughter safe in the Tow Truck. AAA then towed the truck to Penske GMC in Cerrito Auto Square and arrived at 1:48pm. Service advisor then said to leave at garage door and will assess the vehicle tomorrow morning. Albert, the Service advisor, proceeded with giving me paperwork for the Denali and an Enterprise rental car that was located across the street. We had to walk because the shuttle was down (another concern). Albert the service advisor called me the next day [XXX] and advised that the first auto technician suggested the motor seized up. I was advised to wait until the Engine Specialist assessed the motor. Albert the service advisor calls me March 5,2025 @ 11:15am and Engine Specialist did confirm that the motor did seize up and will need a new one. The motor will take approximately 2 weeks to arrive and 3 days to install. We had orders to move our household and all logistics (ferry tickets, lodging, etc...) were in place to depart on [XXX]. Following our first incident of engine failure with a 2023 Yukon Denali (VIN: [XXX] ) on [XXX], we were forced to trade in the vehicle and purchase a 2024 Yukon Denali XL. On [XXX], my husband and I packed our three daughters and loaded the 2024 Yukon Denali XL (VIN [XXX] ) for a two-week Christmas vacation with our extended families. Just outside Collinsville, Alabama the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral where my husband lost control of the accelerator pedal. Thankfully, we were in the right lane and safely navigated to the shoulder. Had we been in the far-left lane of this busy interstate, our family’s safety would have been at significant risk. Once parked, the vehicle never started again. We waited a few hours for a tow truck and family to collect us and all our belongings. It snowed most of the day and was very cold and while waiting for assistance, our car battery died. The vehicle was towed to Royal GMC in Vestavia Hills, Alabama and diagnosed with engine failure requiring complete engine replacement. General Motors replaced the engine since the vehicle was under warranty; however, after two engine failures I do not trust that this won't happen again. I fear for my family's safety.
