The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power.  I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area.  The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition.  Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure.  My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns.  This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road.  Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks.  I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall.  I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. Had either time this car was serviced for these band aid recalls been looked at, we would not be in the situation we are now. Research was done and every vehicle in the 2014 Hyundai class except for the Accents were recalled in Canada for brake lines rusting out after undercoating in Canada. This needs to be looked into because as it stands, our estimate is $2600 to fix an issue that should had been better addressed with these recalls.  We were driving back from an outing with our grandchildren when the brakes went completely out with no warning. The brake light did not come when the brakes failed. The store rep is able to confirm engine misfire on all 4 cylinders, which does seem to indicate that spark plugs/coils should be replaced. On 02/21/2023,  I am able to have a certified mechanic diagnose my vehicle and he performs a compression test and confirms that 3 cylinders are at slightly lower PSI, and the 4th is at 0 PSI.   Unknown to me, this means my engine needs to be replaced.   The mechanic provides additional information that there are known issues with Hyundai engines and recommends I contact dealer, as he has also had a number of Hyundai owners with the same issue.    I did further research and I discovered that my specific vehicle is not included in any current recalls.  Yet I also discovered that there is an open Class Action lawsuit to expand the recall, which appears to include the engine in my vehicle.  I did contact the Hyundai consumer affairs on 02/21/2023 and I am directed to contact my nearest Hyundai service center.   I contacted the Hyundai dealership in Auburn, WA yet after my initial contact the representative fails to return my messages or follow-up.    As this appears to be an ongoing issue with certain Hyundai vehicles, I want to make sure that there is a record of this incident for your review.   The one ongoing issue I can confirm is that my vehicle appeared to burn oil. I got it checked by 6 different mechanics and they told me the noise that I was hearing is coming from a bad rod bearing. One of the mechanics prompted me to look into recalls for that engine. Low and behold... there is a recall for this engine for the same exact issue I am experiencing!! I looked up the VIN for the engine on Hyundai's website and it is Service Campaign 966. I took my vehicle to Hyundai and filed a claim, but they did not want to do anything for me since I don't have the original car. It bothered me though because even if I did have the original car, they did not seem like they wanted to fix the issue at hand. I kept getting the run around from them without any path forward. My car has been in this situation since March of 2022. The Key of Manchester Hyundai wants me to do another engine swap for $7,000 dollars or to lease a vehicle from them. I have been in a very dismal situation and I don't know what to do or who to turn to. I was at risk when I got the vehicle to them and they allowed me to drive away without even batting an eye. Act\u00fae r\u00e1pidamente ya que vivo en un apartamento busqu\u00e9 el extintor de fuegos que me proveen y procedo a apagarlo. Luego de apagado el fuego encontramos una tapa que entiendo que es de el modulo de ABS (envie foto de la misma). I DID DOBBOTH OF THEM WHEN I SPOKE TO HYUNDAI THEY THEN GAVE US A REPRESENTATIVE NAME [XXX] HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT THEY NEEDED TO DO AN INSPECTION ON THE CAR. THE INSPECTORS NAME IS [XXX]. [XXX] THEN SPOKE WITH ME ABOUT THE WAY THINGS WORK AND THAT HE NEEDED TO TOW THE CAR TO A HYUNDAI LOT TO USE THEIR MACHINES AND COMPUTERS. HE DID THAT AND A WEEK LATER HE CALL TO TELL ME THAT THE REPORT HE SUBMITTED 4 DAYS PRIOR HAD BEEN CORRUPTED AT THE HYUNDAI OFFICE AND HE NEEDED TO DO ANOTHER INSPECTION BUT THIS ONE HE DIDN'T NEED TO TOW IT FOR THIS ONE. LONG STORY SHORT THEY CALLED THE CITY AND TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS ABANDONED AND HAD IT TOWED THE SAME DAY THEY INFORMED THAT THE AIRBAGS SENSOR ACTED ACCORDINGLY IT WASN'T HIT HEAD ON AND THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE HIT RIGHT BY THE LICENSE PLATE WHICH WAS KNOCKED OFF IN THE CRASH AND EVERYTHING WAS SMASHED IN.
