The vehicle is fully available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: While driving, the vehicle suffered a complete, sudden loss of motive power on an active highway entrance ramp. The engine stalled in moving traffic with zero throttle response, creating an immediate collision hazard before requiring a tow. Confirmation by Dealer: Technicians formally confirmed these defect patterns. In May 2026, diagnostics logged major engine and emission/EGR control codes, but corporate refused goodwill repair. In August 2026, the highway stall recurred. Diagnostics confirmed active low oil pressure and throttle failure codes, which the dealer resolved by applying 4 factory ECU software updates under TSB 25-01-010H. Service personnel explicitly confirmed these engine control issues are manufacturing defects, not wear-and-tear or mileage-related. Inspections: Inspected, diagnosed, and serviced by authorized dealership service department technicians during both the May and August 2026 failure events. Warning Symptoms & History: Engine issues began at 341 miles when purchased new (settled). In May 2026, check engine lights returned with diagnostic codes for engine and EGR/emissions systems. The failure resulted in the check engine light illuminating, diagnostic codes identifying an EGR system malfunction, and visible corrosion found within the EGR connector and extension harness. This component breakdown causes severe performance risks, risk of sudden loss of engine power, and compromises vehicle safety. Diagnostic & Technical Details: Error Codes Captured: Diagnostic trouble codes in the P0400 series (EGR system flow/circuit malfunction) along with connector/wiring degradation were confirmed during inspection. Root Cause & Symptoms: The failure stems from degradation and electrical shorting risks in the EGR valve assembly and its immediate wiring harness connection. Manufacturer Response & Escalation Denial: When addressing this failure, I discovered that Hyundai has acknowledged widespread EGR valve assembly defects, electrical short risks, and solder flux contamination issues across multiple model years and production lines (such as NHTSA Campaign 24V-308 and subsequent service campaigns like 9B3). However, Hyundai restricts safety recall and warranty coverage strictly based on narrow VIN manufacturing parameters, leaving owners with identical, failing hardware to shoulder exorbitant out-of-pocket repair costs—in my case, quoted at over $2,013. Because a compromised EGR system and corroded electrical harness can cause sudden engine performance failures while driving in traffic, and because Hyundai is limiting its accountability through arbitrary production windows, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this systemic EGR and harness failure on 2022 Tucson Hybrid models and compel Hyundai to expand its safety coverage and reimburse affected owners for necessary repairs.
On XXX the vehicle lost motive power while my wife was accelerating to merge onto a highway with our two young children aboard. The problem began in August 2025 after I purchased a Google Pixel 9. I initially believed the phone was defective and spent several months troubleshooting the phone. After the same problem occurred with my son's Google Pixel 10, I determined the issue was not phone-specific. I reported the problem to Mastria Mazda in March/April 2026 and returned again in May 2026. I opened a case with Mazda Customer Experience on June 4, 2026. The vehicle software has been updated, but the defect remains. The failure is random. It does not occur immediately after connecting the phone and is not associated with navigation, music, phone calls, messaging, or trip duration. It can occur once during a trip or multiple times during the same trip. The defect has been reproduced with two different phones (Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 10) using multiple USB-C cables. The same phones were then tested using wired Android Auto in another 2025 Mazda CX-5 (loaner driven for one week), a Mazda3, a Mazda CX-90, and a Tesla. The problem did not occur in any of those vehicles. My Pixel 9 also works normally in my vehicle when using wireless Android Auto. The reboots occur only through the wired USB-C Android Auto connection in my vehicle. This creates a safety hazard because Android Auto immediately disconnects, causing the sudden loss of navigation, the head-up display directions, hands-free calling, and voice commands while driving. The defect has occurred multiple times during Boston morning rush-hour traffic and while navigating a major highway interchange under construction where lane assignments had been temporarily changed. The unexpected loss of navigation and driver information at these critical moments creates a significant driver distraction and potential safety risk.
WIPERS STOP WORKING. There have been at least 7 Service Appointments that this braking anomaly was identified by the vehicle Owners to the Service Advisor. This has been, and is, an intermittent anomaly/problem that occurs most often when slowing down to stop, and especially when going downhill. There is a very noticeable "Shaking/Shuddering/Pulsating" recognized by the Driver, and when present, Passenger(s) also. On average, this occurs 1x/week , and inconsistent. One time it started pulling left towards oncoming traffic. Another time it was violent shaking, and almost unable to stop at stop sign. The Dealership 1st attempted to repair this by refacing front rotors in 2024. This did not fix the anomaly. In Dec 2024, returned to the Dealership, and a Tech. was able to duplicate the braking anomaly. With that, they then replaced both Front Rotors (51712-L1100 Disk) and Brake Pads (58101-P0A011 Pad Kit) in Jan. 2025. This was nowhere near a low-speed zone, it was several miles from one. When this has happened in higher speed zones the only thing that makes sense sometimes is to try and "override" the setting by putting the accelerator to the floor, but that isn't ideal as I have discovered, because while it will eventually override the sensor it also causes the car to rocket once it does. I recorded my car making this strange noise, and the video recording can be seen at https://youtu.be/bY8GJenoWBQ. I had previously notified Hyundai Maintenance of this during a scheduled vehicle check; nothing was done to resolve this matter. The advertised fuel economy on this car is 36/37/37 (city/combined/highway) Miles per Gallon. I am currently getting 28 MPG (see attachment), which is approximately 30% below the advertised fuel economy. Since I purchased this vehicle, it has consistently delivered a poor fuel economy well below the advertised fuel economy. After trying to resolve the poor fuel economy issue with Hyundai for 9 months (see attachment), I reached out to the Better Business Bureau seeking a resolution. On 17 November 2022, I was notified by the Better Business Bureau that Hyundai rejected my proposed resolutions of Hyundai repairing the car under manufacturer warranty or replace it if unable to fix the poor fuel economy, as well as reimburse me for money spent due to excessive fuel consumption. Additionally, other persons have reported their Hyundai cars delivering a fuel economy much lower than advertised (visit https://www.reddit.com/r/Hyundai/comments/nwayqv/2022_tucson_hybrid_poor_gas_mileage/). I have the perception that Hyundai lied and deliberately deceived me. Something is wrong with my car, and Hyundai has been either incompetent or unwilling to repair the issue under the car manufacturer warranty. I believe that it's important to hold companies such as Hyundai accountable. Otherwise, it would have no incentive for doing what is right. The problem has been confirmed by the Hyundai dealership that I bought the car from. They said they've had to repair multiple Hyundai vehicles with failing panoramic sunroofs at that dealership alone (apparently, this issue is most common in the Santa Fe model). Hyundai is covering the replacement and repair of the sunroof under the car's warranty. They stated that panoramic roofs "explode" due to pressure issues. After they told all this to me, they stated that they "think" something hit my roof, and sent me a picture of chipped glass behind the giant hole on my car's roof. In addition to that crack, I could see small fissures in the entire back panel of the sunroof. I am grateful that I was not in the car when this happened. It was only upon stopping at a restaurant that one of my passengers, who is tall enough to see the roof of the car, noticed the damage. Upon noticing the crack, I drove the car immediately to the dealership, where I was told that they found a small dent in the roof, which indicated a point of impact. The dealership manager then told me in no uncertain terms that because of this technicality, it was my fault and that there was nothing they could do to help me. In the 11 days that I have had the car, I have not parked under any trees, nor heard any noise that would have indicated an impact of any kind. Furthermore, the supposed point of impact was hairline and we don't understand how that could result in the entire back frame had a two-inch gap crack which runs the entire width of the back roof. I understand that it's a Hybrid Vehicle and can be quiet but very few ICE vehicle are as loud as the backup sound on my vehicle. One impact of the loud sound is that I find myself rushing to backup just to be able to get my vehicle out of reverse so that alarm can shut off. This is especially true when I'm in trying to avoid noise. This can be backing into my own driveway if I come home late at night so not to wake the family or neighbors. Neighbors have also complained that the sound is as if a semi truck is backing up. This requirement is insane and makes an EV significantly louder than a regular vehicle which makes more of a regular sound and isn't as annoying as a beeping sound. The loud sound is a safety concern because what I'm doing (rushing in reverse) to avoid the vehicle from making the noise is not a safe practice.
It appears the oil pan is leaking. Upon researching online, other 22 Tucsons with the 1.6L Turbo also have this issue. Unsure if they have reported the issue. I am losing about 10-20 drops/day and unable to get into a dealership until a month later due to no availability at any of my 10 local dealerships. I first began noticing the drops about late March/early April. I took delivery in September 2021 and at the time it started it was right after the first oil change...maybe 6000 miles? I smell oil in the car after getting off of the highway from driving 15 minutes. The smell lingers until car is stopped. There are no warning lamps on the dash and via the vehicles telematic/infomatics the oil level is still at 100%, however I have evidence of leakage as I have put oil soak pads under my car and every day there are drips. I'm hoping the car can hold out until I get to a dealership in mid June and not burst into flames. I called the dealership that had the soonest availability and mentioned I have a leaking oil pan and the advisor still said no available time slots. Didn't offer that I could bring the car in on an emergency basis. As depicted in the photos, I am unable to remove the undercover, but there is no damage that I ran over anything. The engine bay is free from any oil on top.
Tucson Hybrid SEL Conv Vehicle made whining noise, slow take off, gears seem not to shift. We were going at speed and he attempted to pass me on the median, grass and rumble strips. He was inches away from my rear bumper, riding me. When I put the turn signal to move away from him he hit my driver’s side rear panel (side swiped), thank God it didn't turn into a pit maneuver and killed us. He then proceeded to take off. So one thing I have to say is, the vehicle has great pick up. I called 911 and went after him to get his lic plate. When I got to be about 10 car lengths or so, he slammed his brakes. Since I was on the left lane, I could not keep going left and risk going into oncoming traffic. Plus, there was a car on the right lane I slammed the brakes and rear ended him on his right rear. He had a 2021 Toyota Tacoma pick up and our hood flipped up and shattered the windshield. The hood stayed up and I was driving blind. All I did was keeping straight, not knowing where I was going and didn’t hit a vehicle, tree, embankment or sign. I went there yesterday and I have no idea how I we didn’t die. I’m so shaken up by it. When we came to a stop, there was a hole about 6 feet from my front tire. We were the victim of road rage and this person caused the accident purposely. He admitted it to the police. He said to the cop, I was slowing down traffic. I suspect with the size of his vehicle and being so close to my rear bumper, he did not see my turn signal. My major concern is the airbags did not deploy and the hood flipped open blocking my view. I was in a forum and this happened to the same model owned by someone else. I suspect this is a design flaw.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid.
