Started with some electronic sounds at extremes of turning radius but subsequently failed completely and rendered car undriveable. Hyundai repair center attributed this to \"excessive dirt and dust\" or some external force, but was unable to substantiate or demonstrate any damage to parts they say need replacing. The vehicle had approximately 9,447 miles on it and was at 58% battery charge at the time of the incident. The vehicle was leased in January 2025 and has been serviced exclusively at the Hyundai dealership. While driving with two occupants, the vehicle abruptly lost all ability to accelerate. The dashboard displayed a critical warning: \u201cStop vehicle and check power supply\u201d along with a red battery icon. This failure occurred without warning and immediately placed us in danger of being struck by surrounding traffic, as the vehicle could no longer maintain speed or respond to throttle input. I was able to coast the vehicle off the roadway. Shortly after stopping, the vehicle issued an additional warning stating that auxiliary functions were draining the battery. Within moments, the vehicle shut itself down completely. This left both occupants stranded in extreme heat (over 100\u00b0F) with no air conditioning, no ventilation, and no ability to restart or power the vehicle while waiting for rescue. This created a serious risk of heat-related medical distress in addition to the initial roadway hazard. The vehicle\u2019s complete loss of propulsion followed by a full electrical shutdown represents a severe safety defect. At no point should an electric vehicle with more than half a charge and fewer than 10,000 miles lose propulsion during active driving or shut down all systems while occupants are inside. This incident posed a significant risk of collision, injury, or heat-related harm. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this failure mode, as it may indicate a broader defect affecting the propulsion or battery management systems of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership undergoing diagnostics and they confirmed they had difficulty jumping it to move it from where the tow truck had parked it on arrival.","products":[{"type":"Vehicle","productYear":"2024","productMake":"HYUNDAI","productModel":"IONIQ 5","manufacturer":"Hyundai Motor America"}]},{"odiNumber":11743614,"manufacturer":"Hyundai Motor America","crash":false,"fire":false,"numberOfInjuries":0,"numberOfDeaths":0,"dateOfIncident":"05/20/2026","dateComplaintFiled":"06/11/2026","vin":"KM8KR4DE8RU","components":"ELECTRICAL SYSTEM","summary":"I am writing regarding a very serious and frightening safety incident involving my 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5. The shutdown occurred without warning and created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle\u2019s hazard lights would not function because the car appeared to be entirely without power. Traffic continued moving around me while I was stranded in the intersection, and I genuinely feared that another vehicle could collide with me. I ultimately called 911 because the situation was unsafe and I could not move the vehicle. Police responded and directed traffic until the vehicle could be towed. Vehicle is a 2024 IONIQ 5. Issue began at/around 10k miles of use. Sound dampening foam inside of the tires comes loose and bunches up in the tire, creating varying degrees of car shaking and vibration. At its worst, the steering wheel and tires violently shake, especially between 50 - 75 mph. On the highway this causes a very dangerous situation of the driver fighting the wheel to remain safely within their lane. This can happen with no warning (or very little) as the vibration may be subtle at lower speeds on local roads, only to become unexpectedly extreme and violent while speeding-up to join highway traffic. Local Hyundai dealership inspected and tried rotating and balancing which did not fix the problem. Finally they removed the tires and inspected the foam which fixed the issue on one single tire. Cost was passed to the consumer, who is not at fault. And with only one tire addressed, the potential remains for each tire to experience the same failure without warning as time goes by. This is a very dangerous issue, well known as evidenced by complaints since 2023 online, and is going to cause accidents. The failure rendered the vehicle inoperable without warning, requiring it to be towed to a dealership. The vehicle is currently located at AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, TX and should be available for inspection upon request. This failure created a significant safety risk. The vehicle lost functionality unexpectedly, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation if it had occurred at highway speeds, in traffic, or in an unsafe location. A sudden loss of power or inability to restart the vehicle presents a clear hazard to both the driver and others on the road. Prior to the failure, there were no clear warnings indicating an imminent critical issue. A 12V battery issue was suspected at the time of failure, and roadside assistance replaced the battery, but this did not resolve the problem. The root cause was later identified as an ICCU failure. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized Hyundai dealership (AutoNation Hyundai, North Richland Hills, TX) on April 10, 2026. The dealership determined that the ICCU requires replacement, with an estimated minimum repair timeline of four weeks due to part availability. The vehicle has been inspected by Hyundai roadside assistance and an authorized Hyundai dealer. No inspection has been conducted yet by the manufacturer directly, law enforcement, or insurance representatives. I cannot verify if these critical safety systems are operational, which compromises my sense of security and the vehicle's intended safety package. Remote Start Failure as an Environmental Safety Issue: While remote start is a convenience feature, its failure in extreme weather conditions (extreme heat or cold) forces me to enter an unsafe vehicle environment. In cold climates, this means driving with frosted windows and a cold, stiff cabin, impairing visibility and driver reaction time. In hot climates, it can lead to dangerously high interior temperatures before driving. A feature sold with the vehicle to mitigate these risks is inoperative. Uncertainty and System Integrity: The root cause of this total system failure is unknown, as Hyundai Motors has provided no diagnosis. This uncertainty about the stability of a core electronic control unit is, in itself, a safety concern, as it may indicate broader electrical or software vulnerabilities that could affect other vehicle functions. I first reported this issue to Hyundai on October 29, 2025, ticket number [XXX]. Despite multiple inquiries, I have received no substantive update, no diagnosis, and no estimated timeline for repair. The manufacturer has effectively stated they do not know what is wrong with my vehicle or how to fix it. These problems have raised significant concerns about the vehicle's reliability and safety. The first incident occurred on July 22, 2024. I attempted to start the car in my driveway, and while the engine turned on, the vehicle suddenly lost power, and all electrical components became non-functional. There were no error messages, and the display showed all systems as normal. It seemed to function normally after turning the vehicle off and on again, but this unexpected power loss was alarming. The problems continued today, August 3, 2024. At around 8 AM, when I tried to start the car again, the system flickered twice and then shut off entirely. I contacted roadside assistance, and the car required a battery charge for about six hours before it could start again. This evening, while driving at approximately 15 miles per hour in my subdivision, the vehicle suddenly lost power after only a few minutes. This abrupt power loss posed a significant safety risk, and I was fortunate to avoid an accident. I contacted the dealer who sold me the vehicle, but they informed me that they could do nothing remotely and advised me to have the car towed to their location. It is extremely concerning and frustrating to encounter such severe issues with a new vehicle. Given the repeated and unpredictable nature of these problems, I urge Hyundai to take immediate action to investigate and resolve these issues. I am also concerned that other owners may be experiencing similar problems, indicating a potential widespread issue with this model. I noticed that the filter was covered in blue windshield wiper fluid and smelled of the same chemical smell as what my wife and I had been smelling and what I believe has been giving us headaches on long trips when driving to San Antonio, Texas to visit our grandson over the last two months. The Technicians at the Hyundai Dealership where I took my car had conducted an inspection and found the filter was covered in windshield fluid and noted that it is most likely caused by a defect in manufacturing or design within the vents where the fluid drains. Which also means that rainwater or water from washing the car could also be going into the cabin air filter housing. The dealership informed me that they have taken pictures and will forward to Hyundai as part of the process however they believe that this could result in a recall, as they noted that there is not a fix, they can provide to stop the fluid from going into the housing and that it is a health risk among other things. They noted that they believe this to be on the new 2024 models as they have not had the issue on the 2022-2023 models. I am concerned that drivers such as myself are being exposed to the effects of inhaling these fluids which include Headaches, blurred vision, vomiting and other unpleasant effects related to inhaling the vapors from this fluid. I only have this one car and cannot simply avoid driving it in weather where I would have to use my wipers and fluid. I would like to have this defect corrected ASAP to avoid any long-term health effects. The dealership was unable to provide a loaner vehicle and I have to wait until Hyundai is able to work a solution or more people complain about it. Despite the car knowing the vehicle is in the reverse gear the driver will begin receiving audible, visible, and haptic feedback alering the driver of an imminent collision. After pausing the procedure of vacating a parking spot to determine where the car has detected a collision the HUD indicates that it is the sensors in the front of the car that were detecting a possible collision despite the car being in reverse and moving away from the objects the front sensors detected. Furthermore, these alerts don't begin until you begin reversing which makes the situation very dangerous for all parties as the driver is now having to freeze and reassess again before proceeding. But the most dangerous problem about this scenario I am describing is that I as a driver have now gotten used to these \"false\" positives and as a result I assume any alerts I here while backing out are just the front sensors being noisy when it could be someones child behind the car I am driving. Fix this! How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? High risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. Working as intended from all research I have found online from other Ioniq 5 owners.","products":[{"type":"Vehicle","productYear":"2024","productMake":"HYUNDAI","productModel":"IONIQ 5","manufacturer":"Hyundai Motor America"}]},{"odiNumber":11571460,"manufacturer":"Hyundai Motor America","crash":false,"fire":false,"numberOfInjuries":0,"numberOfDeaths":0,"dateOfIncident":"02/12/2024","dateComplaintFiled":"02/12/2024","vin":"KM8KRDDF7RU","components":"ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM","summary":"1.
