I took it back to the dealership. While driving, it is unsafe as the warning lights are flashing on the dash and an alarm is screeching for the entirety of the trip. You cannot safely drive a vehicle when the door will not latch.  After inspection of the vehicle, they advised to repair the lock assembly($770) though $180 was paid at first assessment .  I was told this may not be the final solution to the problem. This time there was no discussion of the hatch issue with this vehicle. Hmmm, there is an online forum for other Nissan owners with the same problem.  I never received any warning lamps prior to the issue. The rear lift hatch was working until it wasn't. Thank goodness I was not on a road trip  (I have two adult children who live out of state). It is unnerving and unsafe to drive while all of the warning lights and sounds are ON all while your rear door is unable to latch. In my opinion, this is a SAFETY issue.  There have been two class action suits on the 2017 Murano. One for foggy headlamps and one for the CVT transmission. I did not join the suits. At the time I was contacted,  my headlamps were not foggy, now they are. Knock on wood, I have no issues with my transmission. I can drive safely with foggy headlamps. I can NOT drive safely when my rear door will not latch. There are 3 buttons for this feature (the dash, the rear door, and the glove box). The button in the glove box allows you to turn off the auto lift feature. Even when you turn it off, the door will not latch. In my opinion, there is a faulty design. This should be a RECALL, not a repair. I am long past the days of soccer and basketball tournaments where a rear door gets a workout. It's just me. Luckily, I was able to get the car to the right narrow shoulder strip before it shut off, police came to assist with keeping me safe in my vehicle until I could have the vehicle towed 3 hours back to Beau Townsend Nissan for more diagnostics. I opened a case with Nissan Consumer Affairs prior to this last safety incident and to date nothing has been done. I have multiple documentation with the dealership about my car being a safety risks to me (senior citizen) and others on the road. The only people to date that seem to understand the safety severity this involves are the Highway police and towing services who have provided me safety every time the car shuts down abruptly while traveling. I\u2019m reaching out to you in hope that this concern can be addressed before you learn about me and possibly others in a fatality situation. It does not mention it in the maintenance portion of the book or anywhere else.  The issue with it leaking into the car is mold.  This is a design flaw by Nissan, and unless a Nissan dealership submits it to NissanUSA as a design flaw, nothing can be done.  Obviously a dealership will not submit it because they can make $159 each time a customer comes in to have those lines unclogged.  NEVER BUY A NISSAN WITH A SUNROOF!!!!!!  Mine has leaked into my car four times since 2021. There were no lights on my dash indicating there was a problem. If my grandmother wasn\u2019t there, it could have been much worse. A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY STATED THAT A CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THEN THE BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY, AND THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE BRAKES ENGAGED SO HARD AND SO QUICKLY, THAT IT THREW ME FORWARD IN THE SEAT. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP AND NO CRASH WAS IMMINENT. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS, BUT NISSAN WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WON'T REPLACE THE SENSOR. IT DID WORK FOR A FEW DAYS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED AFTER JANUARY 22,2020 AND THEN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. IT SEEM TO BE WORKING OFF AND ON AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT.    WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN, MY VEHICLE MILLAGE WAS AT 36,099. NISSAN OF CORAL SPRINGS FLORIDA STATED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000 AND WILL NOT HONOR MY VEHICLE. THIS ERROR WILL HAPPEN ON DAYS WITH NO RAIN OR SNOW.  AT FIRST, IT ERRORED WHEN EXITING A TUNNEL, BUT NOW IT OCCURS RANDOMLY (BUT SO FAR ONLY WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL).  SINCE IT IS OVER THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY, NISSAN REQUIRES A DIAGNOSIS FROM THE DEALER.  THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE A RECALL.  I ALSO RECENTLY RENTED A 2018 NISSAN ALTIMA WHILE ON VACATION, AND IT WAS REALLY BAD.  IT ERRORED ABOUT EVERY 5 MINUTES, EVEN WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL.  NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THE ROGUE MODEL. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC TO PASS CAUSE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT INCREASE IN SPEED AND IT LEAVES YOU TOOLING ALONG IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND I TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY TROUBLE CODES STORED IN THE VEHICLES SYSTEM. IT DOES THIS AT LEAST ONCE PER MONTH AND NO TROUBLE LIGHTS COME ON INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND NOTHING HAS COME OF IT. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE INQUIRIES ABOUT THIS ONLINE TO NISSAN DIRECTLY AND VEHICLE MECHANIC TYPE SITES. THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY STATING THAT A CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THEN THE BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY, AND THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE BRAKES ENGAGED SO HARD AND SO QUICKLY, THAT IT THREW ME FORWARD IN THE SEAT. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP AND NO CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THE CLOSEST CAR TO ME WAS 2-3 CAR LENGTHS AHEAD, AND IT HAD NOT STOPPED. THANKFULLY, THE STREET WAS NOT BUSY AT THE TIME, AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT.     NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS, BUT NISSAN WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO 2 NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WON'T REPLACE THE SENSOR. THE FIRST DEALER TOLD ME MY SENSOR WAS DIRTY, BUT THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, IF THE SENSOR IS DIRTY, THERE WILL BE A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY INDICATING THE SENSOR IS OBSTRUCTED, AND THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM WILL TURN OFF.  THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. THE SECOND NISSAN DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON MY CAR AND RESET THE SENSOR. I KEEP BEING TOLD TO BRING THE CAR BACK IF THE ISSUE HAPPENS AGAIN, BUT THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF ISSUE YOU WANT TO WAIT TO HAVE HAPPEN AGAIN. WHAT IF I AM ON A BUSY STREET OR THE HIGHWAY? I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER CARE TO REPORT FINDINGS BACK TO THEM BASED ON DEALERSHIP RESPONSE. DEALERSHIP RESPONDED IT IS JUST A WAY DESIGN BY NISSAN FOR ALL MURANO, THERE IS NOTHING CAN BE DONE. IT'S JUST A WAY IT IS. I FEEL HELPLESS BY NISSAN OVERALL EXPERIENCE.  NISSAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO STEP UP AND LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE TO MAKE SURE HEATED SEAL HEAT DISTRIBUTION SHOULD BE UNIFORM, NOT LIKE ONE HALF OF SEAL GET VERY HIGH COMPARE TO OTHER HALF.
