All power steering and braking capabilities were lost, leaving the vehicle in a drift. The vehicle had to be put into PARK to be halted.   Fortunately, I was slowing in a neighborhood near a driveway, and was traveling slowly. Had this happened on a major road or freeway (and I have in fact detected this lurching before in such conditions), I or others could be seriously injured in a high speed collision.  The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer yet.
