When towing a trailer, the trailer brakes are inoperable and pose a safety risk in the event of a sudden brake event.  GM apparently has a service bulletin published for this message which indicated a replacement of the connector in the wire harness should be performed.  Although I don't tow trailers often, I should be able to rely on this feature in my vehicle.
