This left the car without power steering and a dangerous situation until I was able to get the car to the side of the road.  I was left stranded halfway on/off the road until I could get a wrecker to come tow.  Towed the vehicle to he nearest automotive service center where I was told the alternator failed.  It also shorted out the battery.  Alternator, battery, and tow was $1200.00.  I see recalls on the internet for my year and model car for the alternator but when I enter my VIN, it does not show up for my individual car.
