As car in front pulls out of the lane, adaptive cruise control guns the engine to 3500-4000 rpm since there was no obstruction in front of it anymore and it wanted to go back to the 70 mph preset.   During this incident the Engine Malfunction light comes on, warning to get car serviced.  Upon taking it in for service they found that the thermostat needed to be replaced?   This seems unlikely.  Car has only 15k miles on it.    I have another model Mazda and the adaptive cruise control has gunned it in a similar manner, taking the car well past 3000 rpm.
