This ended up being due to a thermostat failure. I did have this repaired in Novemver 2023 but what is interesting is that one of my sisters, who also owns a Chevy Captiva had this same thing repaired earlier in 2023 and now my other sister who owns a Chevy Equinox has this same issue now, 2/5/24, and will look into having it repaired.
