The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failed sensor. The contact was informed of the active recall investigation NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V707000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failed cam shaft and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that several additional repairs were needed. However, the contact stated that the VANOS bolts were not included in the recall repair. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under the current recall. The vehicle was not repaired.  The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer since October 2022. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance.
