The vehicle is available for inspection.  Safety was a concern as I was stopped in a school unloading zone/fire lane and was unable to place the shifter in drive.  This caused the lane to be blocked.  I googled the problem, and was able to remove a cover and access a manual release.  I do not know if the problem was previously inspected, however, it is a common search item on Google/internet.  There was no prior warning.
