Additionally, a pool of gasoline sat atop the pump only separated by a thin plastic lid from the electrical cables leading to the battery in the vehicle's trunk. This gasoline could be ignited by the a spark or a short circuit.  The Charger and Chrysler 300 from 2005 to 2023 has this design. I don't know if the auxiliary fuel pump cover is any more robust or fire suppressant than the 2014 model I possess. The dealer I took my vehicle to could not find the source of the leak and claimed to not being able to smell the obvious odor of gasoline permeating the vehicle cabin.
