There are castings in the underside of the panel covering the steering column that prevent the right foot of a driver with a larger foot/shoe to operate the brake pedal.  I have a size 11 shoe and my foot catches on this plastic casting and interferes with the brake operation.  Last night a car pulled out of a parking spot in front of me and the protuberance block my foot from applying the brakes.
