The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle approximately four times before being able to start the vehicle and accelerate as needed. The contact used Google to research the failure and linked the failure to the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The contact became aware of how to reset the vehicle and pressed the parking brake, placed the vehicle in drive and then accelerated to drive the vehicle. After arriving to the residence, the contact attempted to reverse to park the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to reverse. The check engine warning light was illuminated. After repeating the reset procedure, the contact was able to start and drive the vehicle however, the vehicle was lagging while driving at slower speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay half the cost of the repair.
