Independent mechanic inspected it and said the subframe was severely rusted and that I probably should not drive long distances until it is fixed. They researched and said others have had similar issue. Mercedes apparently is aware and offers an \u201cextended warranty.\u201d I have an appointment in two weeks (!) to have it looked at by a Mercedes mechanic. They will pay for the repair/replacement IF warranted. Should be a recall, IMO. Can\u2019t imagine that the part in question, which according to my mechanic, \u201cessentially holds the back of the car together\u201d wouldn\u2019t be an immediate recall.
