Parking brake failed but vehicle is a manual and was in 1st gear so it didn't move noticeably. Discovered when pushed in clutch to start vehicle and had to slam hard on brake to stop vehicle moving backwards down incline.  Took vehicle to local dealership and paid for inspection.  Linkage to parking brake below center console had broken free at joint (lead solder ball popped off cable).  No new parts are available to repair, limited availability for used parts (have yet to find one).
