I could have very easily been hit either inside or outside of the vehicle and could do nothing to prevent this.  other people could be injured due to the vehicle being stopped in the middle of the highway.  this is due to a premature failing of the clutch liner.  Toyota will not replace under warranty stating that it is a wear and tear item.  there was no warning it failed, and it rendered the vehicle inoperable.  Toyota diagnosed a failed clutch, at 20347 miles.  this vehicle has not been abused and was driven to and from work only with 95% of the driving on the highway.  the component is still in the vehicle but can be removed or inspected at request.  the vehicle has been inspected by Blackstone Toyota in Fresno, CA.  This occurred suddenly and without any form of warning whether mechanical or via a warning light, or message.
