The contact stated while driving at approximately 60-70 MPH, the two rear wheels lost traction, and the vehicle started to fishtail. The contact slowed down but while attempting to pull over, the vehicle fishtailed again and started spinning forward before the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a brick barrier on the highway. The air bags deployed upon impact with the brick barrier. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and inspected the vehicle and became aware that the axle from one of the wheels had detached. The contact was experiencing pain to the lower back, neck, right shoulder, and a finger on the left hand. The contact had not sought medical treatment for his injuries. A Police report was filed but the information was not available. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed a total loss. The Insurance Company had since retrieved the vehicle and stated that the vehicle was totaled. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering); however, the contact was not notified of the recall. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
