Specifically, the use of tamper-evident paper VIN stickers on body panels (such as rear doors) is unnecessarily fragile, outdated, and punitive \u2014 with no warning or protection for normal car owners.  I recently purchased a 2024 vehicle and accidentally peeled part of a VIN sticker located on the rear door jamb while cleaning the interior. There was no visible warning on the label, no digital alert, and no indication that this sticker had legal or resale significance. After researching, I learned that this small, unprotected sticker can: \u2022Invalidate Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) eligibility \u2022Flag the car during future inspections, even if there\u2019s zero damage \u2022Require a complicated and expensive ($100\u2013$300) process to replace \u2022Create suspicion over a vehicle\u2019s history despite clean title and ownership  This is unacceptable in 2025. We are in an era of digital keys, over-the-air updates, and software-based identity systems \u2014 and yet a fragile, unmarked paper sticker can still materially harm a consumer\u2019s vehicle value.  My ask: Please consider updating FMVSS 115 or 567 to allow for: \u2022Laser-etched, permanent VIN identifiers on all major body panels \u2022Digital VIN linking through ECU or OEM ownership systems \u2022Elimination or redundancy of peel-sensitive stickers that have no protection or warning  A normal consumer performing normal maintenance or cleaning should not be able to accidentally reduce the value of their car or disqualify it from certification.  I urge you to take this issue seriously and consider this as part of ongoing vehicle identification modernization efforts.","products":[{"type":"Vehicle","productYear":"2024","productMake":"HYUNDAI","productModel":"ELANTRA","manufacturer":"Hyundai Motor America"}]}]}
