I was not behind any trucks or close behind any cars as traffic was light.  There was no lose gravel and I did not hear or see a rock or other incoming object.  The crack immediately spread to more than 6 inches, and over 12 inches by the time I arrived at my destination.  There was/is no small starburst from which the crack spread as is usual when rock or pebble hits a windshield.  It appears as if the windshield just split.  I have gone online and found many similar complaints for this model car, some having to replace windshields multiple times over a short period, both with OEM  and after market windshields, with the dealership replacements and third parties like Safelite.  I think this is a design issue causing stress breaks.
