My Nissan tech told me not to worry about it as long as the car was not braking without necessity. About a month ago, the collision sensor light was blinking and shortly thereafter, the front radar (collision avoidance) sensor malfunctioned, warning lights and sound occurred and the AEB system deployed and car was stopped abruptly. There was no traffic and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I placed the car in park and then in drive and car was back to normal operation. Several days later the lane departure warning occurred for no reason but the car did not shut down. I took the car to Dick Smith Nissan, St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC for service. They replaced the collision sensor for a cost of $2300.00. I called Nissan customer service, received a complaint number ([XXX]) but was told there was nothing Nissan could or would do. This is a problem occurring in many Nissan models over several years. Some of these malfunctioning sensors have been replaced under warranty. Others are part of class action suits in several states. I believe some models have been the subject of recalls. Nissan will not admit that there is a flaw in these sensors and it is a safety issue if the vehicle stalls in heavy traffic or on the interstate. I was lucky that I when my car stalled, I was in town with no traffic and was able to pull off the road. I\u2019m hoping replacing the sensor has solved my problem but it was costly. NTSB should be aware of this safety issue and document incidents regarding these collision sensors.
