The contact stated while driving at 40 MPH, the steering wheel independently steered to the right and the vehicle independently drove off the road and into an embankment. The advanced tracking warning light illuminated, however it went off. The contact stated the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle came to a stop in a leveled field. The contact stated that the power steering faulty assist warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed electronic power steering module. The contact was informed that the electronic power steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed gear box. The contact was informed that the gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.  In addition, the contact was advised that the vehicle was manufactured 31 days outside the manufacturer's recall date. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure.
