As I was moving forward, in the middle of the intersection, the automatic emergency braking system activated which slammed on my brakes, involuntarily, in the middle of the intersection. There were no hazards in front of me that the vehicle would have detected as being a cause for braking. Thankfully, no one was coming through the intersection at the time from the perpendicular sides or else I would have been hit. The braking was so forceful that it caused my phone, that was sitting in my lap to be flung to the floor and was ripped from the charging cord with force.
