Told by the dealership multiple times the hard downshifts and odd shift patterns were normal and not an issue. Turns out it was the transmission valve body failing, causing the entire transmission to fail. Components are not available for inspection.  I was able to limp the car home and to the dealership as failure was mainly slippage. There were no warning lights.
