There were no warning lights or alerts prior to the engine failing.  No power at all after failure.  Was able to coast to the shoulder of the busy highway without getting into an accident but was then left stranded as the engine would not restart.  Upon inspection at GMC dealer I was informed there was a \"catastrophic engine failure\" and the entire engine would need to be replaced.
