The sound is sudden, piercing, and startling. Most concerning, this occurs even when the audio system volume is turned completely off.  Because the noise is so loud and unexpected, it causes a significant distraction while operating the vehicle. The sound is comparable to an ear-piercing static burst and can make it difficult to concentrate on the road. There is no warning before it occurs, and lowering or muting the volume does not prevent it.  This issue has happened multiple times and does not appear to be connected to a specific audio source (radio, Bluetooth, etc.).
