The shaking was not dampened by the suspension at all. (I.e. it kept the same or increased strength).  The shaking could cause damage, excessive loosening or wear of critical components and lead to a serious accident at these speeds.  It is similar to the \"death wobble\", but not as violent.  It occurred multiple times.  The shaking occurred without going over large bumps.  I took it to a dealership and they did a load balance and alignment without resolving the problem.  They noted a wheel was warped and moved it from the front to the back.  This did not solve the problem.  It seemed to prevent the shaking if I just tap the gas and wait a few seconds instead of holding it.
