The contact stated that the failure started occurring some time after purchasing the vehicle brand new. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it remained for 4-5 weeks for repairs. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, causing the vehicle to hit the rear passenger's side door of another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The contact stated that, prior to the crash, the rearview camera failed to make a beeping sound to alert that there was a vehicle in the near proximity of the vehicle.  The contact's vehicle sustained rear bumper damage and unknown panel damage. The other vehicle sustained dents. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injury sustained. No police report was filed.  The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance.
