The steering wheel feels stiff, and in some situations the wheels do not respond properly when turning the wheel.  The issue appears related to a worn or failing rack and pinion steering system. This creates a dangerous situation where the vehicle is difficult to control, especially at low speeds or when making turns.  This problem increases the risk of losing control of the vehicle and could lead to an accident. There was no warning before the issue occurred.  The vehicle has not been involved in any accident prior to this issue.
