We were traveling through our home state to another state.  I was driving and my wife, along wiht two children (age [XXX]  and [XXX] ) and my family dog were all riding inside the truck.  We were traveling at posted highway speed approximately three hours from our home.  There was a whine from the engine compartment that got progressively louder in about 30 seconds.  Then the engine began to lose power.  We were near a chevrolet dealer so I pulled in the service bay, where the technician swiftly told me to cut off the engine, that my crankshaft was broken and it lead to catastrophic engine failure.    The vehicle is available for inspection at the same Chevrolet dealer we visited one month ago. My family's safety was put at risk because we were traveling at highway speed and the vehicle witnessed catastrophic engine failure.  Due to catastrophic engine failure, the engine has not been turned on by the dealer since departing the service department.  The vehicle was been inspected by the service department at a certified Chevrolet dealer.  Interestingly, there were no warning lights or any type of warning other than the severe sound coming from the engine compartment.  Prior to engine failure, there were no other symptoms of the problem other than the low pitched whine that progressively got louder over a 30 second period of time.
