The car had to be towed and dealership mechanic said steering rack had an internal mechanical failure and needs replacement.  After doing some research, I found forums of numerous people who have had this same issue.  This is a known issue by Jaguar for this particular make model and year and they refuse to issue a recall. I had driven on the highway earlier that day and this could have caused a deadly accident had it happened at that time.
