Concerned about the symptoms, I consulted a Honda specialist who advised that the vehicle is exhibiting signs consistent with a failing head gasket and will likely require head gasket replacement. This vehicle has been meticulously maintained and serviced throughout ownership. I retain maintenance records and have taken exceptional care of the vehicle. There has been no abuse, neglect, overheating event, or failure to maintain the vehicle. Through my research, I have found numerous reports from owners of Honda vehicles equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine describing similar symptoms, including coolant loss, startup misfires, rough cold starts, coolant intrusion into cylinders, and premature head gasket failures. The consistency of these reports suggests a possible design or manufacturing defect affecting the durability of the engine. A failing head gasket can lead to loss of engine power, engine damage, misfires, overheating, and potentially unsafe driving conditions.
