Immediately following the sound, the dashboard displayed a critical warning light stating: \"Electrical Charging System Fault \u2014 Check Electrical System.\" Because I was actively driving in heavy rush-hour traffic, this sudden loss of charging system functionality posed an immediate safety hazard. I pressed the in-vehicle \"SOS\" button to contact Genesis emergency services. The operator, who identified himself as \"Eddie,\" refused to dispatch a tow truck to assist me. Instead, he offered to read a phone number aloud for me to write down. I explained that I was actively operating a malfunctioning vehicle in heavy traffic and could not safely write down information, but he still refused to call for emergency towing. I managed to safely limp the vehicle back to my residence and subsequently arranged for the local dealership, Genesis of Las Vegas, to tow the vehicle. On Friday, June 5, 2026, the dealership confirmed that the vehicle had suffered a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which also destroyed the 12V battery. They informed me that this failure was directly tied to NHTSA Safety Recall 272 (Integrated Charging Control Unit). While the dealership performed the ICCU remedy, they are currently refusing to release my vehicle unless I pay $500.00 for the replacement of the 12V battery. Because the 12V battery was directly damaged as a consequential result of the recalled ICCU defect, it should be covered under the safety recall remedy and vehicle warranty. As of this reporting, the dealer is holding my vehicle hostage over this fee, and Genesis Motor America has failed to resolve the issue despite a formal complaint being filed with them.
