I could see that the light for the cruise control was still on. I hit the cruise control button again to turn it off- and it kept giving the same warning again and again (noted above). Meanwhile, the car was beginning to decelerate rapidly. I went from 65mph to 35mph in a matter of seconds while on the highway. I immediately put on my hazards and made my way to the shoulder where I stopped the car, restarted it, and was able to resume driving normally without incidence.
