We were driving on the Whitestone expressway and the car came to a resisted halt.  This could have caused severe injury if I had not been in the lane and came to a slowdown to allow a car to merge in front of me.  The highway traffic patrol man dislodged the fully intact coil from between the tire and tire well.  There were no warning lamps, indicators, signs or symptoms.
