Going through the [XXX] mountains on [XXX]. At an elevation of about 6,000 ft. temperature was about 85, speed about 55 mph the window in the back seat (behind the driver) imploded with a huge bang (sounded like a bomb went off).  Glass was all over the back seat.  I thought someone had shot at our car. I was with a retired CHP and he confirmed no bullets or rocks - this window just spontaneously exploded sending glass shards like shrapnel in the car!  Besides the noise of the explosion, which could have caused the driver to veer off the road, if anyone had been in the back seat they could have been killed or seriously wounded from the flying shrapnel.  In talking with other people, I found out NHTSA has an open engineering analysis (DP23001) investigation regarding this issue.  This is very serious and should NOT be allowed to happen.  Appears there is defective glass in some Hyundai Tucson's -  not sure if the pressure of going over the mountains had anything to do with it or the design of the car but I'm leery of driving this car now!  Thank you for your time and hopefully the manufacturer will correct this issue ASAP or before someone dies.
