I looked under the car and saw that gas was leaking from a small hole on the (R) rear side of the tank.  The hole was an approximately 1/16\" .  Due to danger of flammable fuel vapor and leaking gas I parked away from the house and put a temporary plug to stop the leak. I was shocked to find that the fuel tank was unshielded and made of thin walled plastic. There no warning indicators given prior to this incident. The vehicle has 12383 miles on it.
