I was driving for a weekend getaway (4.5 hrs from my home) and the transmission jerked extremely hard three times and I lost control of the car.  I was driving through the mountains at 8pm.  The RPM was in the red zone, even though my speed was fairly low.  The car would not go into Park or Reverse.  I took the car to HONOR GMC for diagnostic and they told me it cost $249 for the basic check.  After the basic check, and not finding the solution, it would be an additional $2500 to drop the transmission for further inspection.  Prior to this, there was no indication/warning light that the transmission was failing on a 3 year old car.  The transmission on a 3 year old car shouldn't fail.
