At 71,300 miles, we observed an increasing howling noise from the rear of the vehicle, primarily at coasting, with various tones emitted during application and release of the accelerator pedal. The rear differential fluid was drained for inspection, and there were metal shavings accumulated on the drain magnet, discolored (metallic shavings) fluid, and visible shiny metal flakes in the drained fluid. The differential is close to total failure on this vehicle. Hyundai has issued a TSB, so it is known, but they are not recalling this extreme safety hazard that has been reported for several years across many owners. A quick search of various owner forums reveals this truth.
