Traffic was stop-and-go due to the existing wreck. I was traveling in the lane to the right of the tow trucks as I approached. I stopped about 1–2 car lengths behind them. When traffic started to move, I began to move forward and advanced about a car length when the automatic emergency braking (AEB) activated and slammed on the brakes, even though the path in front of me was clear. The person behind me rear-ended me. Luckily, no one was physically hurt, but there is damage to our car that now has to be repaired, along with all the headache that brings. If this had happened at higher speeds, it could have resulted in serious injuries. My family’s safety and the safety of others are definitely at risk because of this phantom braking. I would welcome an inspection of the black box and AEB. Feel free to contact me if you can facilitate this. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone yet. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the phantom braking. However, this has happened previously; this is the first time it resulted in a wreck. From what I’ve seen online, this appears to be a common problem, and the dealership does not have a definitive fix.
