In late xxx, during a single sub-zero weather event in the [XXX] area, the door lock system on this 2024 Lexus NX 450h+ failed on two separate occasions within the same week. On both occasions the vehicle could not be unlocked or entered by any means available to the owner (smart key fob, digital key, remote unlock) and we were locked out in sub-zero temperatures. Lexus Roadside Assistance was dispatched both times and each time took more than three hours to reach us, for more than six hours total stranded outdoors in sub-zero conditions. When the Roadside Assistance technician gained access, he confirmed the defect also prevents the doors from being unlocked from the INSIDE. Had occupants been in the vehicle when the failure occurred, they would have been trapped with no means of egress (fire, submersion, post-collision, medical emergency, hypothermia/heat stroke risk). The vehicle was stationary and no crash, fire or injury occurred. Prior to the lockouts, the remote start and digital key had stopped working. The lock failure was reported to the Lexus Brand Engagement Center on XXX and the vehicle was serviced at the selling Lexus dealer on XXX, where remote start/digital key failure and a defective battery were logged; the lock defect was not resolved. The vehicle was returned to the dealer on XXX and the dealer provided a repair estimate rather than performing the repair under warranty. The vehicle is under three years old and under 22,000 miles, within the 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty. A written demand for a no-cost repair has been sent to Lexus. The vehicle and Roadside Assistance dispatch records are available for inspection on request. This failure appears related to the vehicle's electrical/body-control system and may affect other 2024 NX vehicles.
