The shift-by-wire module uses an internal circuit board known for weak solder joints, causing the dial to become stuck and unable to select or exit a gear (fault code P176C-11 in some cases). This is documented across multiple Land Rover/Range Rover models (2013–2023 Range Rover, 2018–2023 Velar, 2017–2023 Discovery). If a vehicle becomes stuck in Drive or Park unexpectedly, it poses a real safety risk, especially since this is a shift-by-wire system with no mechanical backup linkage. No recall currently covers this specific failure mode, despite it being common enough that it supports a thriving specialist repair/rebuild industry. I am filing this complaint to document the pattern for NHTSA's records." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
