I was driving eastbound on the XXX headed back to my home in [XXX] when I experienced sudden loss of power. At the time, I was traveling roughly 65mph and my car suddenly slowed to 35mph. This posed a serious safety hazard to myself and other vehicles traveling on the interstate. My check engine light came on. I took it to Ford after my trip and described everything that occurred. They had my vehicle for a week and could not recreate the issue nor found anything wrong. My check engine light turned off prior to taking it in after my experience and there was nothing for them to read or go off of other than my account of the incident. I had to rent a car during the week they had my vehicle. I continued to drive since nothing could be found and it is my day-to-day vehicle. I experienced rough idling on cold start and even more loss of power on my daily drive to and from work in the city. My check engine light came back on, and I immediately took it to Auto Zone to get the codes read and report it back to Ford. The codes came back as P0301 and P0299, misfire on cylinder 1 and turbo underboost condition. We made an appointment on the following Monday for my car to be seen. Ford diagnosed my car with coolant intrusion and a sticking waste gate on turbo, requiring a new engine and turbo with a verbal estimate of $10-$15k. I now have to replace my car. This defect poses an immediate safety hazard, as the fluid intrusion causes rough idling, and a sudden, hazardous loss of motor power while operating at driving speeds. This complaint is being filed in direct relation to the active NHTSA Defect Petition DP26008 investigating 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles for engine failures caused by this specific coolant intrusion flaw.
